She concluded Edwards must be to blame.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the life of me, I don\u2019t get the appeal of Jonathan Edwards to many,\u201d Moore shared the news with her 1,000,000 Twitter followers in an a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BethMooreLPM\/status\/1614292405712306179\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thread<\/a> Complete with a tangent about spiders and a reference to herself as a third person. <\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">For the life of me, I don\u2019t get the appeal of Jonathan Edwards to many. After my Bible reading this morning, I read a bit out of an old book I\u2019d pulled off my shelf. This compilation includes many of the greatest sermons from the past. I flipped open to a page where I\u2019d handwritten the words,<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Beth Moore (@BethMooreLPM) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BethMooreLPM\/status\/1614292405712306179?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 14, 2023<\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI flipped open to a page where I\u2019d handwritten the words, \u2018But I have Jesus,\u2019\u201d she wrote, before revealing the page contained a passage from Edwards\u2019 famous \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommons.unl.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1053&#038;context=etas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God<\/a>\u201d sermon. She cited the following passage:<\/p>\n<p>The God that holds your hand over the pit of Hell, just as one holds a spider over the fire, hates you and is horribly provoked. \u2026 You are 10,000 times more abominable in his eyes than the most hateful venomous serpent is in ours.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI get that Edwards is talking to those who do not look to Christ for salvation but I\u2019m just saying, I was so broken &#038; self-loathing &#038; ensnared in my sins, such preaching would\u2019ve made me feel like dying. Like running away, not running toward God,\u201d Moore. \u201cGod uses all sorts of means of calling people out of sin &#038; unbelief. At times, I have very much needed the sternest possible warning from God. I guess what I\u2019m trying to say is that I\u2019m no big theologian but I just don\u2019t think you\u2019re a spider. And I don\u2019t think God abhors you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite her status as a rockstar of women\u2019s bible studies, Moore has been criticized for her association with questionable figures such as Victoria and Joel Osteen, her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/religion\/2021\/04\/07\/beth-moore-women-complementarianism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rejection<\/a> Complementarianism and her heavy reliance upon emotion and arbitrary personal interpretations of Scripture (\u201cHow did God speak to you directly today?\u201d It is common to use the term &#8220;common&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/the-end-time.org\/2020\/06\/23\/has-beth-moore-only-recently-drifted-or-has-she-always-been-false\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">question<\/a> in her studies).<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unsurprising that someone like Moore, who emphasizes the elements of the Gospel that are less offensive to unrepentant sinners, such as Christ\u2019s love and companionship, is uncomfortable with Edwards\u2019 harsh message. But the love and grace of Christ can only properly be understood in the context of the grossly offensive nature of our own sin, the sinless holiness of our Creator, and our absolute need for Christ\u2019s sacrifice so we may be spared the righteous wrath of God.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards uses this context in his classic sermon.
