Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) vetoed the state\u2019s gay marriage legislation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">\u201cI was so angry that I spoke to the press for the first time as a gay man at the age of 68,\u201d According to reports, he said this in a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestage.co.uk\/big-interviews\/big-interview-george-takei-my-mission-in-life-is-to-get-this-chapter-of-us-history-known-to-americans\">interview<\/a> The Stage, a British theatre publication.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>George Takei (now 85) recounted his 2005 experience in an interview with <em>Frontiers<\/em>Los Angeles gay magazine, &#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">\u201cWhy did I come out when I did? Because Schwarzenegger presented himself as a movie star who had worked and was friends with gays and lesbians, many of whom voted for him, but then vetoed that bill. (AP Photo\/Ann Johansson)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Takei claimed that he was already married to his now-husband and was not afraid of coming out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy did it take me so long to come out?\u201d He stated. \u201cBecause I\u2019m an actor and I wanted to work. I learned at a young age that you couldn\u2019t be an openly gay actor and hope to be employed. And I was already an Asian-American actor, so I was already limited a lot. To this day, there are big Hollywood actors who are not out in order to protect their careers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">2005: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed\u00a0A.B. 849 would have legalized same-sex marriages in California. A.B. was vetoed by him two years later. 43, also known by the Religious Freedom &#038; Civil Marriage Protection Act which would have allowed same-sex marriage to be legalized in the state, was vetoed two years later.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>After leaving Sacramento and resuming his Hollywood career,\u00a0Schwarzenegger made an about-face and publicly supported gay marriage, even praising the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s 2015 decision legalizing same-sex marriage.<\/p>\n<p>George Takei was the winner of the George Takei Award last year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2022\/03\/08\/george-takei-you-can-endure-higher-prices-for-food-and-gas-if-it-means-punishing-putin\/\">told Americans to stop complaining about soaring inflation<\/a>, telling consumers they need to put up with\u00a0higher food and gas prices in order to send a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
