This will be to commemorate the victims. &#8220;defining moment&#8221; To support America&#8217;s democracy as well as to honor those who gave their lives for the cause of the riot. Congress commemorated the second anniversary this month of the riot. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/jan-6-committee-misled-china-iran-influence-efforts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JAN. 6 COMITTEE MISSLED ABOUT CHINA &#038; IRAN INFLUENCE EFFORTS 2020<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Two years after January 6th, we see one of the darkest chapters of our nation\u2019s history as democracy\u2019s defining moment \u2014 not its last,&#8221; Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO), who sponsored this legislation, said according to Fox News <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/democrats-want-january-6-memorial-capitol-honor-democracys-defining-moment?intcmp=tw_fnc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Report<\/a>. &#8220;As leaders responsible for these attacks spread extremism here and beyond our borders, we must be very clear. Susan Wild (D.PA), to require that the Architect of Capitol construct an exhibit highlighting photos from the ransacking. The bill was never voted on and has not gained much traction. <\/p>\n<p>The memorial will honor law enforcement personnel, such as U.S. Capitol Police officers Brian Sicknick or Howard Liebengood who died shortly after the riot. A medical examiner believes that Sicknick&#8217;s death was due to two strokes he had at the time of the riot. Liebengood committed suicide just days after Jan. 6. <\/p>\n<p>The Capitol staff scrambled for recognition. &#8220;restore the Capitol complex&#8221; In the aftermath of the attack, Gunther Hashida and Jeffrey Smith, both Metropolitan Police Department officers, died from suicide. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ABOUT THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>Democrats convened the House Jan.6 committee to investigate the riot. This investigation concluded during the last Congress. Although the committee made criminal referrals to former President Donald Trump, and his associates, the Justice Department has so far declined to take any action. <\/p>\n<p>Jack Smith, the DOJ\u2019s special counsel has been leading the Jan. 6-related inquiries. He also co-ordinated efforts to overturn 2020&#8217;s election. Trump has denied any wrongdoing. More than 500 people have been sentenced to prison after the Jan. 6th attack. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/interactives.ap.org\/jan-6-prosecutions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">per<\/a> The <i>Associated Press<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-CA, made a handshake with the conservative flank his caucus. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2023\/jan\/12\/kevin-mccarthy-prepared-release-all-capitol-footag\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">All footage released<\/a> The riot is expected to shed additional light on the events that led up to it.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A There are many ways to get involved in the saga of House Democrats Renewing calls for the creation of a monument to the fallen are being made Jan. 6 Capitol Riot.
