I\u2019ve lost, one way or another, two jobs in corporate law firms because of my involvement with right-of-center causes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Coleman\u00a0has been in the news for representing Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes in a defamation lawsuit against the\u00a0Southern Poverty Law Center and Hasidic communities in New York opposed to Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u2019s COVID-19 restrictions. He said that his representation of McInnes proved too controversial for a law firm he was affiliated with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are going to think we represent Nazis,\u201d he said of the rationale he was given for why he was asked to leave the firm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s raising risk aversion to an entirely new level,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s not even risk aversion. That\u2019s conflict aversion,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd that\u2019s how you get a flattening of mores,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cand nothing outrages anyone meaningfully. There\u2019s outrage theater, but every single thing that people have claimed to be outraged about by Donald Trump, including children in cages, immigrant children in cages, non-issues now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The anti-conservative bias in the legal profession is having a chilling effect on his colleagues in the field, Coleman said, with plenty of conservative lawyers contacting him to say they\u2019re \u201cterrified of being identified as such.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3652336\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/giuliani-at-rally-1200x800-1.jpg\" alt=\"giuliani at rally\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Attorney Rudy Giuliani at the Stop the Steal rally in Washington on Jan. 6, 2021. (Jenny Jing\/The Epoch Times)<\/p>\n<p>He said he was introduced to former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani by another lawyer who had previously worked for the Trump campaign, who told him he was looking for someone \u201cto do what he would have been doing, but his partners told him, \u2018we\u2019re not going to be involved in challenges to the election.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo notwithstanding that dead bloody body and that knife, these lawyers were so cowed,\u201d Coleman said, referring to lawyers opting to bow out of representation despite the presence of evidence of election irregularities.<\/p>\n<p>Law firms pressuring partners to leave or drop their representation of conservatives was a widespread phenomenon, Coleman suggested. But there have been other forms of blowback.<\/p>\n<p>Philadelphia personal injury lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/home-of-trump-attorney-van-der-veen-vandalized-with-graffiti_3695878.html\">Michael van der Veen<\/a>, who led Trump\u2019s second impeachment defense, hired 24-hour private security for his family after vandals smashed windows and spray-painted \u201cTRAITOR\u201d on the driveway of his home.\u00a0He told the outlet that he had received more than 100 death threats.<\/p>\n<p>William J. Brennan, another Philadelphia lawyer who was on Trump\u2019s defense team, told the outlet that the level of backlash he faced was without precedent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been representing controversial clients for 30 years, and I\u2019ve never experienced this type of vitriol,\u201d Brennan told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/philadelphia\/trump-impeachment-trial-philadelphia-lawyers-backlash-20210213.html\">The Philadelphia Inquirer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had no political agenda here. We are not partisan warriors. We are criminal defense lawyers who represented a client,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>There were also calls to shut down Van der Veen\u2019s law firm, which is a direction Coleman fears the anti-conservative sentiment is taking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not yet reached the point\u2014but we probably will soon\u2014where both bar disciplinary authorities and the judiciary will start joining in,\u201d he said, adding that the writing on the wall was the case of former security adviser Michael Flynn.
