He\u2019s fully cooperated with the prosecutors when the documents were found, he notified Archives. It\u2019s a total contrast to President Trump, who stonewalled for a whole year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s Don Lemon pushed Schumer over reports that indicated that the administration gave \u201cmisleading statements\u201d You can now \u201ccreated the impression that Biden\u2019s team has something to hide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat doesn\u2019t sound that much different than the former president,\u201d Lemon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon, there\u2019s now a special prosecutors. Let\u2019s see what they have to say,\u201d Schumer replied. \u201cWe can have all the speculation and comment. Let\u2019s see what they have to say and let\u2019s focus on doing things that help the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, senator, I have to get \u2014 I have to say this,\u201d Lemon responded. \u201cYou seem much more measured about this than with the Trump documents because you called for transparency with the Trump documents. You wanted lawmakers to have access to the documents seized from the former president, his residence in Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Poppy Harlow asked Schumer if Biden was being transparent towards the American people. Schumer replied, \u201cBottom line is the prosecutors will get to the bottom of this and let\u2019s let them do it, for God\u2019s sake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>KAITLAN COLLINS, CNN: Joining us now to weigh in on all of this and what\u2019s happening on Capitol Hill is Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the Democratic senator obviously from New York. We\u2019re so glad to have you back on set.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But we have to ask you about what\u2019s happening with the attorney general now appointing the special counsel, and the fact that the White House is acknowledging, yeah, these classified documents were found. Do you believe that he\u2019s violated the federal law here?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SEN. CHUCK SCHUMER (D-NY): It\u2019s much too early to tell. There\u2019s a special prosecutor in each situation. This has been handled well by President Biden. He\u2019s fully cooperated with the prosecutors when the documents were found, he notified Archives. It\u2019s a total contrast to President Trump, who stonewalled for a whole year. The point is that we now have special prosecutors to handle both these cases, which are very serious. Let it unfold. We don\u2019t have to push them in any direction or try to influence them. That\u2019s all I\u2019m going to say, let the special prosecutors do their job.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>COLLINS: Do YOU support the fact that a Special Counsel is now overseeing this matter?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SCHUMER (Yes, I do). And, in fact, when they first \u2014 the FBI went to Mar-a-Lago and they said, well, what are you going to say about this? I said, it\u2019s premature to comment, and I\u2019ve said it here. So, I\u2019ve been consistent about it in both cases. Special prosecutors or prosecutors? I support both. Let them do their jobs. I think that\u2019s all that should be said. The politicians shouldn\u2019t be buzzing around.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>LEMON: Is it possible that the Biden team is being honest about your statements? Do you think that they\u2019re being \u2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SCHUMER: I think the Biden folks, as I said, cooperated with the prosecutorial authorities from day one and Donald Trump didn\u2019t.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>LEMON: This reporting is by us. According to one justice official, said that the White House public statements earlier this week offered an incomplete narrative about the classified documents from Biden\u2019s time as vice president reinforced the need for special council. The misleading statements created the impression that Biden\u2019s team has something to hide. That doesn\u2019t sound that much different than the former president.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SCHUMER: Don, there\u2019s now a special prosecutors. Let\u2019s see what they have to say. All the speculation and comments are welcome.
