This year, Ukraine received 5,200 rounds. The United States sends approximately 1,000 Excaliburs each month, but the country&#8217;s annual production is only 1,000 rounds. This type of ammunition could be replaced by American stocks in seven years.\n<\/p>\n<p>Up to 8,500 Javelin anti-tank missiles have been sent to the battlefield and 1,600 Stinger anti-aircraft missiles have been transferred,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/csis-website-prod.s3.amazonaws.com\/s3fs-public\/230109_Military_Inventories_Graphic.jpg?V07Bh5IFz5cOgg9qXyu.wrwD7BYakT7C\">according A chart is included in the report<\/a>\u00a0It was compiled from news reports and Pentagon sources.\n<\/p>\n<h2>The U.S. Military Needs Ammo Too \u2013 Even in Peacetime<\/h2>\n<p>CSIS noted that U.S. field artillery marines and soldiers need shells to maintain proficiency and train, as well as the ammunition needed if there was a war. The conflict in Ukraine is an artillery duel from the beginning. Russia\u2019s army is sometimes described as an artillery force with tanks. The U.S. also provides support for Ukraine&#8217;s military operations.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/06\/watch-ukraine-is-using-u-s-m777-artillery-to-pound-russias-military\/\">M777 towed howitzers<\/a>\u00a0These were first sent out in April. Recently, the American Embassy granted the American Defenders.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.army-technology.com\/projects\/paladin-m109a7-155mm-artillery-system\/\">Paladin 155mm self-propelled howitzer<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 the jewel of the Army field artillery branch. This system will need more shells.<\/p>\n<h2>Ukraine Fires Over 4,000 Artillery Rounds Everyday<\/h2>\n<p>According to the report, Ukraine fires close to 4700 rounds per hour and 143,000 shells each month. This is not sustainable for the United States. The United States will need other military forces from the allies to provide artillery ammunition. Analyst at CSIS\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/people\/mark-f-cancian\">Mark Cancian<\/a>\u00a0The author suggested that this situation could turn into a crisis. Ukraine could be in trouble \u201cration shells and fire at only the highest priority targets.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<h2>Heavy Fighting Requires Ample Artillery fire<\/h2>\n<p>The Ukrainians would find it impossible to live in this situation due to the ongoing heavy fighting in Donetsk, particularly around the towns of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/world\/battle-rages-in-ukraine-town-as-russian-military-changes-leadership\">Bakhmut and Soledar<\/a>Artillery fire is essential as Russian soldiers advance in waves.\n<\/p>\n<h2>Do you think the DoD has this under control?<\/h2>\n<p>A Pentagon spokesperson acknowledged the problem, but stated that the military is closely monitoring the situation.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/2190271\/patrick-s-ryder\/\">Air Force Brigadier General Pat Ryder<\/a>\u00a0He didn&#8217;t seem concerned about diminishing ammunition stocks. \u201cWe will not go below our readiness requirements as we take into consideration what Ukraine\u2019s security assistance needs are,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Transcripts\/Transcript\/Article\/3267095\/pentagon-press-secretary-air-force-brig-gen-pat-ryder-holds-an-on-camera-press\/\">Ryder stated this in a press release<\/a>\u00a0transcript.\n<\/p>\n<h2>Maybe South Korea Could Help<\/h2>\n<p>South Korea is one source that may help to alleviate the problem. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thediplomat.com\/2016\/08\/south-korea-holds-largest-ever-live-fire-artillery-drills\/\">The South Korean army has a large artillery unit<\/a>\u00a0A productive industrial base, which could supply Ukraine with 155mm shells. Ryder stated that the Pentagon is currently in talks with the South Korean government regarding further assistance to supply efforts. The United States has agreed to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-europe-business-south-korea-government-and-politics-15569a7bfdb6c53404cfce5f0df1c28f\">South Korea: Purchase 100,000 rounds<\/a>\u00a0In November, however, Ukraine will move through these quickly.\n<\/p>\n<h2>You can use a different size of round instead<\/h2>\n<p>Another option for Ukraine would be to use lighter, less lethal weapons that are closer in range.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.army-technology.com\/projects\/m119a1-a2-howitzer\/\">105mm howitzers<\/a>\u00a0ammunition. But the defenders will prefer the harder hitting rounds and Excalibur GPS-guided bullets.\n<\/p>\n<h2>This issue requires more attention<\/h2>\n<p>The problem may be of interest to Congress members. Republicans have reservations about the whole concept of aiding Ukraine militarily or financially. This hearing will only fuel their doubts.
