To the extent that his smears about Israel did have any effect on the decision to reject him, Dean Elmendorf should be roundly applauded for protecting his schools\u2019 academic integrity.<\/p>\n<p>First, Kenneth Roth&#8217;s protestations aside, it is understandable that people would like to accuse him of being a racist. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcpa.org\/phas\/phas-sharansky-f04.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">antisemitism<\/a>Particularly in his attempts demonize, delegitimize, and hold the Jewish State to a double standard, which is not common for democratic nations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Roth\u2019s pathological <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.timesofisrael.com\/obsessed-93-of-ken-roths-illegal-accusations-targeted-israel-last-month\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Obsession<\/a> With <a href=\"https:\/\/eoznews.blogspot.com\/2017\/08\/hrws-ken-roth-spouts-new-israelwhite.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vilifying<\/a> Robert Bernstein was its founder and long-serving chairman emeritus when the Jewish State was so bad for Human Rights Watch. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/10\/20\/opinion\/20bernstein.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Publicly condemn<\/a> The organization <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110224080005\/http:\/www.ngo-monitor.org\/article\/human_rights_in_the_middle_east\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Multiple times<\/a> for losing its way \u2014 and its credibility \u2014 under his leadership.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Roth has a bad habit of repeating dangerous fabrications. These often focus on Jews and\/or Israel and are sometimes used to make excuses for Roth. \u201cjustify\u201d Antisemitic violence. He has, for instance, been arrested on two separate occasions. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/international\/archive\/2014\/09\/does-human-rights-watchs-kenneth-roth-understand-the-nature-of-prejudice\/380556\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blamed<\/a> Antisemitic Attacks in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ngo-monitor.org\/nm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Roth1.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.K<\/a>. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ngo-monitor.org\/nm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Roth2.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Germany<\/a> You can also find information on Israel (instead o antisemites) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/diaspora\/antisemitism\/hrw-director-accused-of-justifying-antisemitism-on-twitter-674346\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Claim<\/a> He was misunderstood. He also used the Jewish law to refer to him. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysun.com\/article\/editorials-roths-false-god\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">primitive<\/a>,\u201d mockingly <a href=\"https:\/\/unwatch.org\/human-rights-watch-chief-mocks-jews\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Referred<\/a> Jewish culture, defended <a href=\"https:\/\/elderofziyon.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/hrws-definition-of-human-shields.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">war crimes<\/a> Terrorist organizations, including <a href=\"https:\/\/elderofziyon.blogspot.com\/2014\/09\/analysis-of-ken-roths-tweets-8x-more.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas<\/a>The following is an example of a statement: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GeraldNGOM\/status\/996386017279135744\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Be dismay<\/a> Israel has not been subject to more casualties while it defends its own borders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is clear that Dean Elmendorf may feel Roth is not eligible for a Harvard position because he makes false statements about Israel and calls it terrorism. \u201cscholarship.\u201d His supposed ability to \u201cexpertise\u201d in international law, Roth\u2019s 2021 histrionic report labeling the Jewish state guilty of \u201capartheid,\u201d This is a throwback at the Zionism is-racism United Nations canard. It was widely criticized and proved false. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/us-rejects-human-rights-watchs-accusation-of-israeli-apartheid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rejected.<\/a> Roth\u2019s dubious understanding of the basics of international humanitarian law and the principle of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenRoth\/status\/496313191434317824\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Proportionality<\/a> \u2013 it is a prospective, not a retrospective analysis \u2013 have been repeatedly exposed, as has his disturbing inability to recognize <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/SB10001424127887324439804578105691046734674\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">genocide<\/a> When it comes to threats against Jews.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Roth appears to have confused the ideas of victim and victim by trying to portray himself as the victim. \u201cfree speech\u201d And \u201cacademic freedom.\u201d Spreading falsehoods using shoddily-researched reports riddled in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.timesofisrael.com\/human-rights-watch-endorses-palestinian-terrorism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Errors<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camera.org\/article\/human-rights-watch-report-maligns-israel-with-lies-on-top-of-lies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Omissions<\/a>Support outright and \/ or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camera.org\/article\/human-rights-watch-and-its-tunnel-deceptions\/\">Lies<\/a>, is absolutely protected First Amendment activity outside of the academy \u2014 but it is precisely the kind of behavior that demonstrates professional unfitness for an academic post. The American Academy of University Professors has. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaup.org\/article\/academic-freedom-and-scope-protections-extramural-speech#.Y8EG6OzMKso\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Detailed explanation<\/a>, \u201cFreedom of speech presumes the freedom of the individual to opine without regard to standards other than the dictates of his or her own conscience and the minimal requirements of the law. By contrast, scholars are failing to do their job \u2014 and may be subject to discipline \u2014 if they do not reject ideas that have been tested and found wanting.\u201d Roth can (and does) say whatever he wants, but that doesn\u2019t mean anyone has to support, let alone hire him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is also worth noting that both Elmendorf and the Kennedy School are demonstrably not biased towards Israel \u2014 despite what the woke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2023\/1\/11\/hks-ken-roth-backlash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mob<\/a> He might believe that he is being resigned by those who frantically demand it. As recently as 2020, for example, under Dean Elmendorf\u2019s tenure, Saeb Arekat himself, the chief negotiator for the Palestinian Liberation Organization, was awarded a year-long fellowship.
