Pritzker\/Getty Photos    <\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">J.B. Pritzker, a Democratic Governor from Illinois, signed Tuesday one of the largest weapon bans in America. It prohibits the sale of almost 170 assault weapons.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The &#8220;Protect Illinois Communities Act&#8221; Certain pistols, shotguns and rifles, including AR-15s, are prohibited from being sold and distributed. The law was passed by the Democratic legislature of the state. &#8220;high capacity magazines&#8221; And &#8220;switches&#8221; That can make handguns totally automatic.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Illinoisans can keep weapons that fall under the ban if they already own them but must register the weapons by Jan. 1, 2024\u2014or face a Class 2 Felony for failing to provide authorities the location of their &#8220;weapon of war.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This law has caused immediate backlash from state law enforcement: There are more than two dozen sheriffs in the state <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/illinois-assault-weapon-ban-gun-laws-2023-mchenry-county-sheriff-kane\/12694745\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/illinois-assault-weapon-ban-gun-laws-2023-mchenry-county-sheriff-kane\/12694745\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1673728929256000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2iu4pt2ya3IEHDLSC0kU8q\">Say it<\/a> They will not enforce the law.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;This bill puts us in a bind on the oath we took as sheriffs to uphold the Constitution and constitution of Illinois,&#8221; Robb Tadelman, McHenry County sheriff, spoke to Chicago&#8217;s ABC 7.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Illinois is now the 9th state to ban cigarettes &#8220;assault weapons&#8221;\u2014but its new law could soon face legal challenges in light of a recent Supreme Court ruling that struck down New York&#8217;s restrictions on concealed handgun carry. <em>New York State Rifle &#038; Pistol Association, Inc.<\/em> v. <em>Bruen<\/em>, whose majority opinion was authored by Justice Clarence Thomas,\u00a0also created a new test for Second Amendment cases.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We need new regulations &#8220;consistent with this Nation&#8217;s historical tradition of firearm regulation,&#8221; The Supreme Court ruled. According to the Court, modern sentiments toward gun rights do not justify limiting the constitutional guarantee.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Illinois State Rifle Association, along with other groups, is preparing to sue Illinois.\u00a0Dan Eldridge (board member of Federal Firearms Licensees of Illinois), is seeking relief from courts. &#8220;not going to last.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;We will win, and when we\u2019re done with this, we\u2019ll have an energized membership base, we\u2019ll have a pretty big war chest and we\u2019ll go after everything else that we can,&#8221; Eldridge stated.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Biden&#8217;s administration celebrated passage of the law: White House press secretary Karine Jean Pierre this week stated that Biden &#8220;commends the leadership&#8221; Pritzker, the one who took &#8220;bold action to keep weapons of war off America\u2019s streets.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Meanwhile, state Republicans claim that the law is<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic governor J.B.
