Ky. asked for a variety of documents from the White House. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-joe-biden\">Joe Biden<\/a>\u2019s office and Delaware home, triggering a special counsel investigation.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/FmXSQf8XgAA_rDi?format=jpg&#038;name=4096x4096\">Neue letter<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/FmXSQf8WIAIRYWy?format=png&#038;name=large\">issued <\/a>to White House counsel Stuart Delery on Friday, Comer noted that his committee recently initiated an investigation into Biden\u2019s possession of classified materials and said that more documents are needed by Jan. 27. This includes \u201call classified documents\u201d that were recently obtained by Biden\u2019s lawyers \u201cat any location,\u201d Conform to the letter.<\/p>\n<p>Comer\u2019s letter also sought a complete list of Biden\u2019s aides and lawyers who are tasked to look through Biden\u2019s documents, a list of locations where the documents were found, and communications and documents that were sent between the Department of Justice and White House or\u00a0the National Archives. The latest House Oversight letter was triggered after a second batch of documents were found by Biden\u2019s aides and lawyers inside rooms of his Delaware residence; classified materials were also found at his Washington office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have [documents] revealing this address appeared on Hunter\u2019s driver\u2019s license as recently as 2018,\u201d House Oversight Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPoversight\/status\/1613927671339024386\">Write<\/a>, referring to Biden\u2019s son Hunter Biden, \u201cthe same time he was cutting deals with foreign adversaries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The nexus between the tranche of documents and Hunter Biden is notable, as the GOP has long sought to investigate connections between the president and his son\u2019s controversial business ventures in China and Ukraine. (Kevin Dietsch\/Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<p>That also includes how Twitter officials in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election worked to suppress a story that shed light on the younger Biden\u2019s laptop and messages between Hunter and others that made reference to his father as \u201cthe big guy\u201d amid dealings with a Chinese multinational. Recent files released at the behest of new Twitter owner Elon Musk revealed that a former FBI official who used to work at Twitter, James Baker, suggested in an email to other Twitter managers that a New York Post report about Hunter\u2019s business ties should remain blocked while inaccurately suggesting it was disinformation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that Democrats no longer have one-party rule in Washington, oversight and accountability are coming,\u201d Comer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/comer-presses-treasury-to-hand-over-records-of-suspicious-business-transactions-as-biden-family-investigation-moves-forward_4977735.html\"><\/a> Janet Yellen, Treasury Secretary, in a request to her to provide her panel with suspicious activity reporting for Hunter Biden, James Biden as well as other Biden family members. \u201cThe Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating President Biden\u2019s involvement in his family\u2019s foreign business practices and international influence peddling schemes,\u201d Comer wrote to Yellen.<\/p>\n<h2>Another letter and response<\/h2>\n<p>Later Friday, House Judiciary Republicans will be led by Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio). <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JudiciaryGOP\/status\/1613970823928516608\/photo\/3\">Write<\/a> to Attorney General Garland and the DOJ requesting documents and communications relating to the appointment of new special counsel Robert Hur following Garland\u2019s Thursday announcement. They also are seeking records and communications between the DOJ, FBI, and Biden\u2019s office relating to materials that were found at Biden\u2019s office and home.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Biden\u2019s White House legal counsel said Republicans are engaging in a politically motivated attempt to discredit the president. They stated that in part, some Republicans want to draw media attention to increase their national profile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn their first week as a governing majority, House Republicans have not taken any meaningful action to address inflation and lower Americans\u2019 costs, yet they\u2019re jumping out of the gate with political stunts driven by the most extreme MAGA members of their caucus in an effort to get attention on Fox News,\u201d Ian Sams, a spokesman for the White House Counsel\u2019s office, said in a statement to news outlets earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Biden \u201cis going to continue focusing on the important issues the American people want their leaders to work together on, and we hope House Republicans will join him,\u201d According to the spokesperson. The Epoch Times has contacted the White House Counsel\u2019s office for comment.<\/p>\n<h2>Special Counsel<\/h2>\n<p>Merrick Garland, Attorney general, said Thursday that he has appointed a special attorney to investigate whether Biden mishandled classified papers when he served as vice president. Robert Hur, who was appointed U.S. Attorney for Maryland by Trump, was named the special counsel.<\/p>\n<p>According to a recent investigation, Garland stated that he \u201cconcluded that, under the special counsel regulations, it was in the public interest to appoint a special counsel.\u201d Like Biden\u2019s case, Garland last year appointed a special counsel, Jack Smith, to investigate various allegations against former President Donald Trump, including whether the former commander-in-chief himself mishandled documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI strongly believe that the normal processes of this department can handle all investigations with integrity.
