(Allan Stein\/The Epoch Times).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><b>China spends billions every year on US Land<br \/><\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Chinese investors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/2022-international-transactions-in-us-residential-real-estate-07-18-2022.pdf\">purchased<\/a> more than $6 billion in U.S. real estate between March 2021 and March 2022, according to the National Association of Realtors, making it the largest foreign buyer in terms of dollars spent.<\/p>\n<p>Florida has been at the center of that purchasing binge, with 24 percent of all foreign property purchases in the nation occurring there. The state with the next highest amount of foreign purchases was California, which accounted for 11 percent.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis described the CCP\u2019s influence in U.S. society as \u201cvery insidious\u201d and, to that end, said that he\u2019s not only concerned with the CCP seeking out farmland but that he also wanted to terminate its access to residential properties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy would you want them buying residential developments and things like that?\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t want them owning subdivisions and things like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While outrage over the issue has been widespread in recent months, there have been relatively few concrete actions taken to curb the buying of U.S. land by CCP-aligned organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/lawmakers-want-to-ban-chinese-companies-from-buying-us-farmland-due-to-national-security-threat_4869400.html\">introduced<\/a> legislation in November 2022 that would \u201cprohibit the purchase of public or private agricultural land in the United States by foreign nationals associated with the Government of the People\u2019s Republic of China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, Reps. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) introduced legislation to improve national security by \u201cpreventing foreign adversaries from taking any ownership or control of the United States agriculture industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There may be some movement on the issue. The House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/house-moves-to-create-new-committee-for-strategic-competition-with-chinese-regime_4975059.html\">voted<\/a>\u00a0this week to establish a select committee to investigate issues related to the strategic competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.
