Pritzker\u2019s new gun law signed this week, which immediately bans the manufacture or possession\u00a0of dozens of rapid-fire rifles, pistols, .50-caliber guns, and some attachments.<\/p>\n<p>Pritzker has signed the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ilga.gov\/legislation\/fulltext.asp?DocName=10200SB2226ham003&#038;GA=102&#038;LegID=134879&#038;SessionId=110&#038;SpecSess=0&#038;DocTypeId=SB&#038;DocNum=2226&#038;GAID=16&#038;Session=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Protect Illinois Communities Act<\/a>\u201d This measure was adopted by the State Capitol in Springfield during a ceremony earlier this week. It was hours after House Democrats passed the final passage, and less than one day after Senate Democrats approved it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m signing this legislation tonight so it can take immediate effect,\u201d Pritzker spoke at a press conference. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksdk.com\/article\/news\/local\/illinois\/sheriffs-departments-eastern-illinois-wont-enforce-new-assault-weapons-ban\/63-241519b3-30df-4527-b273-6fe8dafa70ec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Many Republican lawmakers opposed this legislation, saying that it would not prevent crime or counter U.S. Supreme Court rulings involving Second Amendment rights. Additionally, lawyers indicated that the new law would greatly restrict the constitutional rights and rights of law-abiding citizens here in Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>County sheriff\u2019s departments responded to the new law, assuring residents that deputies would not enforce such measures, including forcing Illinois residents who already own firearms to register them with the state.<\/p>\n<p>His <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid0AYzhooZnDbKWE4J43D1dAXHmMm8Zh6giiLxqDQsfpX3u9gJJxRKCrThVbXADVwrVl&#038;id=100064564724339\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Let me know<\/a>Rob McMillen, Greene County Sheriff, wrote that he would be following his lead \u201cmorals, beliefs, and obligations concerning protecting the rights\u201d of the county residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese types of laws put law enforcement officers and prosecutors in a very precarious box, with us having to decide to not enforce laws that were passed by government bodies,\u201d McMillen wrote. \u201cBut, as your Greene County Sheriff, I cannot sit back and let laws that strip Greene County citizens of their constitutional rights, and not take a stance supporting the citizens against a government that wants to trample on their rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law allows the owners of newly banned firearms to keep the device on their private property.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=549526590550453&#038;set=a.257868226382959\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dan Travous, Clinton County Sheriff<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/facebook.com\/profile.php?id=100064538088313\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shawn Kahl, Macoupin County Sheriff<\/a>?, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=472623891724176&#038;set=a.155436610109574\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monroe County Sheriff Neal Rohlfing<\/a> Similar statements were made by other departments, stating that they would not investigate or arrest anyone relating to the law. They also shared the belief that citizens have an unalienable right to keep and bear arms. \u201cdefense, liberty, and property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Madison County Sheriff Jeff Connor and Madison County State\u2019s Attorney Tom Haine shared a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=556489873188755\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statement<\/a>\u00a0Noting that authorities expect law to be challenged \u201ctrust that this legislative overreach will not stand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the meantime, we remain focused on reducing violent crime,\u201d The letter is as follows: \u201cTherefore, pending further direction by the courts, the Madison County Sheriff\u2019s Office will not expend its limited resources to check whether otherwise law-abiding gun owners have registered their weapons with the State, nor will the Madison County Sheriff\u2019s Office be arresting or housing otherwise law-abiding individuals solely due to non-compliance with [the law].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pritzker threatened to use state law enforcement in the event that authorities did not follow the new law during Tuesday&#8217;s press conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is that the state police is responsible for enforcement, as are all law enforcement, all across the state,\u201d Pritzker said. \u201cAnd they will, in fact, do their job or they won\u2019t be in their job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Devore Law Office announced the partnership with other legal professionals in order to sue Governor Pritzker of Illinois General Assembly for the adoption of the new gun law.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire was told by Thomas Devore that the firm is currently preparing two lawsuits to defend Illinois residents against this unconstitutional law.<\/p>\n<p>DeVore believes that Illinois&#8217;s legislators and the state court are wrong \u201ccontinues to blatantly disregard the three readings requirement of the constitution and the supreme court needs to finally stop it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe law has serious equal protection problems wherein it allows members of the strong unions in Illinois to retain their rights to purchase and possess \u2018assault rifles\u2019 and high capacity magazines,\u201d Devore spoke. \u201cThis discrimination against citizens cannot stand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers contend that the new law could violate U.S. Supreme Court precedent regarding Second Amendment rights.
