The first stash consisting of 10 documents was reported earlier this week after being found by a personal attorney of the president in Biden\u2019s office at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will conduct the assigned investigation with fair, impartial, and dispassionate judgment. I intend to follow the facts swiftly and thoroughly, without fear or favor, and will honor the trust placed in me to perform this service,\u201d Hur <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RobLegare\/status\/1613610928871702535\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a> In a statement Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>John Lausch, Chicago&#8217;s U.S. Attorney, recommended that Garland tap Hur. Lausch began a preliminary inquiry into the handling of the documents, reportedly from Biden\u2019s time as vice president, after Garland tapped him on November 14, 12 days after 10 classified documents were found in Biden\u2019s D.C. office on November 2.<\/p>\n<p>Hur, a former federal prosecutor, has previously worked for the Department of Justice under both Democratic and Republican administrations. His current role as partner in Gibson, Dunn, and Crutcher, which he leads groups specializing white-collar defence and national security, will end. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gibsondunn.com\/lawyer\/hur-robert-k\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biographie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hur was the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland when he last served in government. This post was nominated and confirmed by the former President Donald Trump. In that time, President Joe Biden had almost every federal prosecutor he had chosen resign.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to serving as U.S. attorney for Maryland, Hurry worked in the DOJ as then-Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein\u2019s right hand, helping Rosenstein manage the day-to-day activity of the Justice Department and acting as Rosenstein\u2019s \u201cpoint person\u201d overseeing then-special counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s investigation into the Russian collusion hoax of the 2016 election, Rosenstein told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/12\/politics\/who-is-robert-hur-special-counsel\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hur \u201cwas my point person and he had biweekly meetings with Mueller\u2019s team and then briefed me on the progress of the Russian special counsel investigation,\u201d Rosenstein said. \u201cSo he has seen that firsthand and he knows that you need not to be influenced by politics and make decisions based on fact and the law and the Department of Justice policy, and I think we can count on Rob to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From 2007 to 2014, Hur worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in Maryland when Rosenstein had the job as the state\u2019s top federal prosecutor. From 2003 to 2005, Hur worked at the DOJ as counsel and special assistant before serving as counsel to current FBI Director Christopher Wray, then serving as assistant attorney general in charge of the DOJ\u2019s criminal division.<\/p>\n<p>Harvard College was Hur&#8217;s undergrad program. He then received his law degree from Stanford Law School, in 2001.
