The envelope was discovered by the attorney November 2, but the discovery was only made public earlier in the week. Richard Sauber (special counsel to President) stated that the documents were immediately transferred to the National Archives for storage.<\/p>\n<p>Sauber said in a subsequent statement that a review of Biden\u2019s known offices, quarters, and other spaces turned up a second set of classified documents at the president\u2019s home in Wilmington, Delaware, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/12\/us\/biden-documents.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Attorney-General Merrick Garlandhttps:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/merrick-garland-appoints-special-counsel-to-investigate-biden-classified-document-scandal&#8221;>responded<\/a> To all the controversy, he announced Thursday that he had appointed an additional counsel to investigate further the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Garland appointed former U.S. Attorney Robert Hur \u2014 who served during the Trump administration \u2014 to serve as special counsel in the investigation after the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois John Lausch, who was assigned to do an initial review of the case, recommended to Garland that a special counsel be appointed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"fnmMv geuMB alqtB wqIGQ\">\u201cOn January 5th, 2023, Mr. Lausch briefed me on the results of his initial investigation and advised me that further investigation by a special counsel was warranted. Based on Mr. Lausch\u2019s initial investigation, I concluded that, under the special counsel regulations, it was in the public interest to appoint a special counsel,\u201d Garland said. \u201cIn the days since, while Mr. Lausch continued the investigation, the department identified Mr. Hur for appointment as special counsel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garland signed an order stating that Hur would investigate \u201cthe possible unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents or other records discovered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe document authorizes him to investigate whether any person or entity violated the law in connection with this matter,\u201d Garland spoke at the press conference. \u201cThe special counsel will not be subject to the day-to-day supervision of any official of the department, but he must comply with the regulations, procedures and policies of the department.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
