The orca, also known by the killer whale, can be seen in Palm Coast, Florida. \u201cocean\u2019s top predator,\u201d According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, (NOAA).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is extremely rare,\u201d NOAA\u2019s Blaire Mase <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox10phoenix.com\/news\/killer-whale-dies-after-becoming-stranded-on-florida-beach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>Add \u201cWe\u2019ve never had a record of a stranded killer whale in Florida or the Southeast United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A man was on a morning stroll along the beach when he spotted the orca. <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/21-foot-killer-whale-dies-after-beaching-florida\/story?id=96383586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Estimate<\/a> It weighed in at three-and a half tons. He believed the animal was alive, but it was still in darkness outside. So he called Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wesh.com\/article\/orca-palm-coast-beach\/42460315\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WESH 2<\/a> reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw something large in the water. It was about 25 feet off the shore,\u201d The man spoke to the outlet. The white color on the underside of the animal was a sign it was an orca. He sent a photograph to a biologist, who confirmed his suspicions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Authorities were called to the scene to try to save the orca. But they couldn&#8217;t reach it. The Flagler County Sheriff\u2019s office shared that SeaWorld and the FWC would perform a necropsy, an autopsy for animals, on the large marine mammal. Flagler Sheriff shares video and photographs showing the orca lying in the water with waves breaking against it. Because of the huge crowds of people who wanted to capture the rare sight, they advised everyone to stay clear of the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">After a 21-foot whale that washed up on the beach, officials from Jungle Hut Park in Palm Coast called for help. Since then, it has lost its life. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SeaWorld?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SeaWorld<\/a> And <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MyFWC?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MyFWC<\/a> They are also helping with the necropsy of the animal and its removal. This required dozens of people, a bulldozer, compact loaders and a lot of work. <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/21-foot-killer-whale-dies-after-beaching-florida\/story?id=96383586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a>. However, an official from NOAA said that it showed. \u201csigns of various illnesses\u201d According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news-journalonline.com\/story\/news\/environment\/2023\/01\/12\/dead-florida-killer-whale-go-to-smithsonian-for-possible-display\/69803039007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daytona Beach News Journal<\/a>. According to the outlet the Smithsonian Institution might one day display the skeleton from the orca,\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/wildlifeflorida.org\/whales-beach\/#:~:text=The%20beaching%20of%20a%20single,are%20the%20most%20commonly%20affected.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fish and Wildlife<\/a> Foundation of Florida states that whales, and other animals, often end up on the beach due to injury, sickness, bad weather, navigational problems, or hunting too close. Orcas \u201cvery rarely become beached unintentionally,\u201d The group notes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to NOAA, the killer whales can often be found in any ocean around the globe. They are the largest dolphin family member with over 50,000.
