TABOR stands for \u201cTaxpayer Bill of Rights,\u201d Local residents get refunded tax dollars whenever the state has a surplus over the cap. The mechanism encourages lawmakers to limit spending and save hard-earned cash by allowing them to control their budgets.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Williams and Nick Stark, American Legislative Exchange Councils (ALEC), held a November meeting to revive the three-decade-old payment plan. \u201cthe gold standard for fiscal restraint\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2022\/11\/colorado-offers-the-gold-standard-for-fiscal-restraint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Review<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor decades, academic researchers such as the late Milton Friedman have promoted the benefits of having an institutional constraint, like TABOR, on the growth of government,\u201d They wrote. \u201cFollowing the low-tax-plus-limited-government formula, Colorado developed into one of the most competitive business climates in the nation in the years following TABOR\u2019s adoption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For decades, Colorado has been one of the most competitive places to live and do business in. The state\u2019s business climate, however, has begun to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.richstatespoorstates.org\/states\/CO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fall consistently<\/a> In rank, Democrats have captured a trifecta government power multiple times over the past 20 years. Jared Polis sent the letter to taxpayers last year. \u201cAt a time when inflation is causing increases in the cost of everyday items, we are committed to getting this money to you as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers were tricked into thinking that Denver Democrats were generously giving out refunds of $750 to $1500 to show strict fiscal responsibility. However, Coloradans were cheated out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by Democrats who changed the calculation to a flat rate, instead of matching refund checks to taxes on a sliding-scale basis. The checks were also sent months before schedule by state Democrats to reach bank accounts in time for the fall midterms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJared Polis is blatantly using taxpayer dollars to help himself get re-elected,\u201d Colorado GOP chair Kristi Burton Brown <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradopolitics.com\/colorado-in-dc\/colorado-gop-files-complaint-against-polis-over-governors-letter-touting-tabor-refund\/article_3c83c97e-1440-11ed-b791-2b6256e1d6d4.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a> At the time.
