(AP Photo\/Manuel Balce Ceneta).<br \/>\n               <\/figcaption><div class=\"Figure-credit\" itemprop=\"author\">\n Manuel Balce Ceneta\/AP\n               <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figure><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Comer was added: \u201cThe American people must know the extent of Joe Biden\u2019s involvement in his family\u2019s shady business deals and if these deals threaten national security and his decision-making as president.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Treasury Department <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/house-republicans-seek-information-on-hunter-bidens-finances-11653480339\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Claim<\/a><\/u> It will be available in May 2022 \u201chas made SARs available for every request we\u2019ve received, regardless of party, and will continue to do so.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>However, Comer stated that in July 2022 \u201cThis is not true.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the newly-elected chairman said that \u201cTreasury\u2019s lack of a substantive response to Republican requests for SARs and other information in the 117th Congress indicates that Treasury\u2019s leadership abandoned this policy at a similar time when we requested information regarding the Biden family.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>While Hunter was vice president, Hunter held a lucrative post on the board at Ukrainian energy giant Burisma. The president\u2019s son also pursued business deals in China and elsewhere during and after his father\u2019s tenure as vice president, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/dirty-money-dirty-politics-and-hunter-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">These associations are responsible for millions of dollars in revenue.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Davidson, the Treasury Department\u2019s assistant secretary for legislative affairs, responded to Comer\u2019s requests for information in September 2022, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/gop-treasury-still-blocking-access-suspicious-hunter-biden-transactions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defending the department\u2019s decision to keep a close hold on the suspicious activity reports.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department deeply respects the critical oversight role of Congress and remains committed to responding to appropriate requests from committees of jurisdiction,\u201d the Treasury official wrote, arguing that &#8220;safeguarding Bank Secrecy Act information is critical to law enforcement efforts to investigate money laundering, terrorist financing, and other illicit financial activity.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Davidson added: \u201cThese suspicious activity reports and other BSA reports filed with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network contain details of financial transactions and other sensitive, nonpublic information. This is preliminary, unverified tip-and lead information regarding possible violations of the law. <\/p>\n<p>Comer now wants Yellen to hand over again \u201call SARs generated in connection with\u201d Hunter Biden, his uncle James Biden, the younger Biden\u2019s business partners (including Eric Schwerin and Devon Archer), and his businesses.
