Chip Roy (R\u2013TX)<\/a> Thursday&#8217;s legislation was reintroduced to defund the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/world-health-organization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Health Organization<\/a> and raised\u00a0concerns about China\u2019s influence over the group.<\/p>\n<p>The bill is titled \u2018\u2018No Taxpayer Funding for the World Health Organization Act,\u201d cracks down on contributions to the WHO that have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/about\/funding\/contributors\/usa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">risen to hundreds of millions of dollars<\/a> annually, making the United States one of the United Nations agency\u2019s largest donors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFunneling millions of taxpayer dollars to the corrupt World Health Organization that serves the Chinese Communist Party is a slap in the face to hardworking American families struggling under record high inflation, and to all those whose lives and livelihoods were ruined and destroyed by the COVID pandemic,\u201d Roy stated this in a statement that was sent to The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation addresses the two types and contributions to WHO. \u201cNotwithstanding any other provision of law, effective on the date of the enactment of this Act, the United States may not provide any assessed or voluntary contributions to the World Health Organization,\u201d The bill states.<\/p>\n<p>Contributions assessed are \u201crequired dues a government agrees to pay when it becomes a member,\u201d While voluntary contributions \u201cfluctuate annually and are often earmarked for specific projects,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/crsreports.congress.gov\/product\/pdf\/IN\/IN11369\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to the Congressional Research Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Roy, a conservative who is a firm believer in Congress\u2019 \u201cpower of the purse\u201d As a way to effect change, the WHO has been accused of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/rep-chip-roy-dems-more-supportive-of-china-than-protecting-american-businesses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">siding with the communists in China<\/a>\u201d Over concerns that the group may have helped Beijing <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/FINAL_Letter-to-WHO-re-China-Pressure-.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The origins of the coronavirus Pandemic are being covered up<\/a>. As the WHO was scrutinized for its response to the health crisis, this bill is just the latest in a string of US-related bills.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, then-President, announced in spring 2020 that he planned to stop funding the WHO as his administration reviewed COVID. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/white-house\/trump-says-he-halting-funding-world-health-organization-n1183941\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The group was accused<\/a> Of \u201cseverely mismanaging and covering up\u201d The threat.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s declaration prompted condemnation from Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump must stop his petty, counterproductive political games,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/04\/14\/trump-world-health-organization-funding-186786\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY)<\/a>She was the Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee. \u201cThe coronavirus cannot just be defeated here in the United States, it has to be defeated in every conceivable location throughout the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden, shortly after assuming office in January 2021 wrote to U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres to inform him that the United States had abandoned plans to continue to do so. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-united-states-will-withdraw-from-the-world-health-organization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">It can be withdrawn from membership<\/a> The group. Meanwhile, Biden\u2019s chief medical adviser, Dr. Anthony Fauci, announced the United States <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/us-who-support-006ed181e016afa55d4cea30af236227\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Would resume supporting<\/a> The World Health Organization will join the COVAX vaccine initiative to distribute COVID vaccinations throughout the world.<\/p>\n<p>Roy quickly became a household name. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/419?r=6&#038;s=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Introduced legislation<\/a> The bill was intended to reduce WHO funding. However, the House, which was then controlled by Democrats, failed to act on it. Between 2020-2021, the United States was third in WHO funding, having invested almost $700 million. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/about\/funding\/contributors\/usa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Last May, the group reported<\/a>. Only Germany, the Bill &#038; Melinda Gates Foundation and Germany contributed more money over that period.<\/p>\n<p>Roy\u2019s new bill stands a better chance for consideration with Republicans now running the lower chamber, but it still faces long odds to become law with Democrats still in charge of the Senate and Biden in the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe WHO not only regularly promotes abortion and radical gender ideology but also praised China for their \u2018leadership\u2019 at the beginning of COVID-19 and has done nothing to hold the CCP accountable for the spread of COVID-19,\u201d Roy stated these words in his statement for The Daily Wire. \u201cIt is far past time for Congress to use its power of the purse to cut off US funding to this corrupt international body just like the Trump Administration did.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With Republicans now in control of the House, Rep.
