is in the books, which means there\u2019s another year of data to analyze, too. A new publication by the Tax Foundation is also available. <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfoundation.org\/state-population-change-2022\/?_hsmi=241077747&#038;_hsenc=p2ANqtz--n3rka0qdk35Y6kdloFpfBxM0fyLxjC8UeuO4xyNT_eeVk6N0r4qi4DgJVFyT2xUlCyZeiGXRiL7nvGhcOkXcQYGw-kL0unWd2eb0_j1nsUBH6k3g\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">Analysis<\/span><\/a> shedding light on which states gained the most population in 2022\u2014and which ones saw residents leave in droves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The analysis examined the time period between July 2021 and July 2022 and found overall US population growth was at 0.4%, but some states\u2019 populations shrank while others grew. Florida saw 1.9% growth in population, and was the state with the highest population growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Other states with a 1% increase in population include Idaho and South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The 5 states with the highest population loss were:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li2\">New York (-0.9%)<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\">Illinois (-0.8%)<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\">Louisiana (-0.8%)<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\">West Virginia (-0.6%)<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\">Hawaii (-0.5%)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Americans were moving in 2022. They chose low-tax state over high-tax. However, red states such as Texas, South Carolina and Florida are booming, with lower taxes and less-regulated economies. That\u2019s just speculation, but it\u2019s borne out in the data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cPeople move for many reasons,\u201d The Tax Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfoundation.org\/state-population-change-2022\/?_hsmi=241077747&#038;_hsenc=p2ANqtz--n3rka0qdk35Y6kdloFpfBxM0fyLxjC8UeuO4xyNT_eeVk6N0r4qi4DgJVFyT2xUlCyZeiGXRiL7nvGhcOkXcQYGw-kL0unWd2eb0_j1nsUBH6k3g\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">This is how it works<\/span><\/a>. \u201cSometimes taxes are expressly part of the calculation. Often, they play an indirect role (by contributing to a broadly favorable economic environment). And other times, of course, they don\u2019t factor in at all. The Census data and these industry studies cannot tell us exactly why each person moved, but <b>there is no denying a very strong correlation between low-tax, low-cost states and population growth<\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">It really is becoming so glaring that even New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently admitted their state needs to address its population drain\u2014months after telling Republicans to \u201cget out.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tell people to go.<\/p>\n<p>They will go faster if you overregulate and tax them.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jim Stinson (@jimstinson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jimstinson\/status\/1610005912491548674?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" class=\"stylish-link\">January 2, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\">It\u2019s interesting that some other states with Democratic leadership, like Colorado, didn\u2019t see population declines. They have a low tax burden, and Jared Polis is moderately fiscally responsible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">So, if blue states want to stop the population drain, they simply need to stop taxing and regulating their economies into a coma\u2014and then acting surprised when people head for freer pastures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>You like this article?
