Most conservatives and probably no small number of people who don\u2019t want their names known would agree that drag shows should be adults-only events. The Arkansas legislature has now introduced a bill that would limit the age of attendees to drag shows.<\/p>\n<p>In a bicameral effort (that\u2019s \u201cbicarmel,\u201d If you are <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1610452308340375554?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1610452308340375554%7Ctwgr%5E5d350ed3fb30788681f70b777cc55ca44a1f0f50%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpjmedia.com%2Fnews-and-politics%2Fmatt-margolis%2F2023%2F01%2F05%2Fkarine-jean-pierre-has-a-big-problem-n1658896\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KJP<\/a>), Arkansas state Senator Gary Stubblefield and Representative Mary Bentley have sponsored <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkleg.state.ar.us\/Bills\/FTPDocument?path=%2FBills%2F2023R%2FPublic%2FSB43.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Bill 43<\/a>. The bill would increase \u201cdrag performance\u201d to Arkansas\u2019 list of adult-oriented businesses as defined by Arkansas code. The bill specifically states:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAdult-oriented business\u201d It can be an adult arcade, adult bookstore, adult video store, adult cabaret, adult cabaret, adult entertainment establishment, adult motion picture theatre, adult theater, adult massage establishment offering adult services, a escort agency or nude model studio. <u>drag performance.<\/u><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These events are also allowed to take place in certain areas. The bill also states that such businesses cannot be found on public property or where minors can view the activity. TV station <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kark.com\/news\/your-local-election-hq\/arkansas-bill-classifies-drag-show-as-adult-oriented-business-adds-location-restrictions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KARK<\/a> I had a copy the bill that defined drag performance as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cDrag performance\u201d It refers to a performance<\/p>\n<p>(A) One (1) or more performers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0(i) Exhibits a gender identity that is different from the performer\u2019s gender assigned at birth using clothing, makeup, or other accessories that are traditionally worn by members of and are meant to exaggerate the gender identity of the performer\u2019s opposite sex; and<\/p>\n<p>(iii. Sings or lip-synches, dances or performs in front of at least two (2) people for entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>(B). This is meant to appeal to the putrient interest<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Drag performances are not banned by the bill. Someone could host drag shows, brunches or poker games. These events are open to adults who consent. The bill would prohibit minors from attending these events. These events are not sexually explicit, so drag queen story hours might be a different matter. These people will scream, rage, foam at the mouth, and tear their clothes. I&#8217;d like to ask them: What is your child&#8217;s benefit from sexualizing you? Please name the benefits of taking your child along to an event where a mature, scantily-clad male is dancing around on a stage to sexually-charged songs while your child pays them dollars. What about taking them to a stripclub to see exotic dancers. No, you probably wouldn\u2019t, but you will take your child to see men do essentially the same thing, albeit with somewhat less nudity. Please give me the benefits your child receives. You can\u2019t. You can&#8217;t. However, you get to feel confident, innovative, cutting-edge and sexually intelligent. You get bragging rights. You are the only one who benefits. I\u2019ve seen men and women go to prison for providing children with adult materials and involving them in sexual activity.
