Contee III, Chief of Police, spoke about the shooting that occurred over the weekend and resulted in Karon Blake&#8217;s death, a thirteen year-old male.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Contee addresses a press conference <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5dc.com\/news\/shooting-of-13-year-old-karon-blake-not-centered-around-race-says-dc-police\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> Check out the \u201cmisinformation\u201d Being present and understanding the needs of the people living in the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThere\u2019s been too much misinformation swirling around this incident, too many people have made assumptions about this case, and it is unfair to the grieving family,\u201d Contee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/washington-dc-teens-shooting-death-not-centered-around-race-police-chief-criticizes-misinformation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>. \u201cSpreading of inaccurate information is dangerous, reckless, and has the potential to adversely impact the investigation and the relationships in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognize the community\u2019s desire to get the details of this incident, but we must also acknowledge that the ongoing nature of the investigation prevents us from sharing specifics that could jeopardize the integrity of this case,\u201d Contee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5dc.com\/news\/shooting-of-13-year-old-karon-blake-not-centered-around-race-says-dc-police\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>However, he did not give any specific information.<\/p>\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2023\/01\/10\/karon-blake-shooting-dc-police-chief\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a> He stated that there would be an in-depth review of the incident. \u201ctragic death of a son of our city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt\u2019s not about getting it fast but about getting it right,\u201d Contee stated, noting: \u201cThis process takes time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cPeople are making allegations centered around race, and that is wrong,\u201d Contee\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The police chief didn&#8217;t give the name of the suspect, but stated that he was African American and had no connection to law enforcement. The Washington Post reported anonymously that he was a Washington, D.C. public employee, which Mayor Muriel bowser confirmed on Wednesday. Bowser also noted that he had been placed on administrative leaves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Blake was shot just before four on Saturday morning. Blake did not appear to have a weapon according to law enforcement. Contee stated that they have not taken a weapon from Blake on Tuesday. Law enforcement also observed that two more people may have fled the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A release <a href=\"https:\/\/mpdc.dc.gov\/release\/homicide-1000-block-quincy-street-northeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a> That \u201c[d]etectives\u2019 investigation at the scene revealed that a male inside of a residence, at the listed location, heard noises and observed someone that appeared to be tampering with vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe male resident went outside, armed with a registered firearm, to further investigate. There was an interaction between a juvenile male and the male resident,\u201d It was added. \u201cDuring the interaction, the male resident discharged his firearm striking the victim.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A police report reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/dcist.com\/story\/23\/01\/10\/dc-police-update-karon-blake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Not noted<\/a> Blake was a victim of several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at a hospital nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Contee said that Blake was shot by a man who called police and was giving Blake CPR when they arrived. He also legally owned a gun and had a concealed carry permit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Contee stated that the grand jury would likely decide whether to bring criminal charges against the individual.
