However, gun owners can keep their guns on private property.<\/p>\n<p>Illinois residents who possess unregistered firearms could be charged with a misdemeanor for the first offense, and a felony for each subsequent offense.<\/p>\n<p>Pritzker reads the names of the victims killed in the Highland Park mass shooting on July 4, 2012. The gunman used a Smith &#038; Wesson M&#038;P15 semiautomatic rifle.<\/p>\n<p>The gunman purchased the firearm legally in 2020 despite the alleged killer\u2019s documented history of threatening and suicidal actions, The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/illinois-strict-gun-laws-failed-to-stop-the-suspected-highland-park-shooter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Local media reported that the governor called mass shootings a tragedy that was rooted in the facts that \u201cour state and nation have been held hostage by the NRA and their allies time and time again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Illinois had some of America&#8217;s most restrictive gun laws. Maybe the political winds are in your favor here today. But I can tell you that we will not comply and you\u2019re not going to do a darn thing about it because the law, the Constitution and the founding principles are on our side.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Darren Bailey is a Republican state representative who resigned in a <a class=\"multivariate\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DarrenBaileyIL\/status\/1612604028621316098\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tweet<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019ll die on my front porch before anyone takes my guns away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy message to Springfield: If you want my guns, come get them,\u201d Bailey said.<\/p>\n<p>According to a local reporter, Bailey called the acts of lawmakers &#8220;inappropriate&#8221;. \u201ctyrannous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou also must know that I and millions of other gun owners in this state will not comply,\u201d He added that he would fight against the measure \u201cin court,\u201d because it is against his Second Amendment rights.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019ll die on my front porch before anyone takes my guns away.
