Henry Cuellar (TX), joined all voting GOP lawmakers to support the legislation. <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/202329\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The final tally was 220-210<\/a>, with Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) voting \u201cpresent\u201d and three Republicans not voting. Despite the victory for Republicans in the House, the legislation likely won\u2019t get far in the Democrat-led Senate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"roll-call-description\">The bill, called the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/26\/text?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22Born-Alive+Abortion+Survivors+Protection+Act%22%2C%22Born-Alive%22%2C%22Abortion%22%2C%22Survivors%22%2C%22Protection%22%2C%22Act%22%5D%7D&#038;r=1&#038;s=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act<\/a>,\u201d establishes that health care practitioners who do not reasonably act to \u201cpreserve the life and health of the child\u201d after an attempted abortion as they would any newborn face fines or up to five years imprisonment. The bill also outlines civil remedies for the mother of an abortion survivor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis reasonable legislation would protect a baby born alive following an abortion,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/wagner.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/wagner-scalise-cammack-introduce-born-alive-abortion-survivors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said Carol Tobias<\/a>, president of National Right to Life. \u201cThis bill isn\u2019t about interfering with a so-called right to abortion. It is about stopping infanticide. Congress must act now to pass this legislation and protect these vulnerable babies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO), who introduced the bill, celebrated its passing following a years-long effort. She touted how the <a href=\"https:\/\/wagner.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/wagners-born-alive-legislation-passes-house-heads-senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legislation will<\/a> \u201censure that every single baby born in the United States receives lifesaving medical care at their most vulnerable moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lower chamber <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/202330\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also adopted<\/a> on Wednesday a measure \u201ccondemning the recent attacks on pro-life facilities, groups, and churches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries speaks in opposition to GOP abortion legislation:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe in Roe v.
