Hoehn Saric posted this: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HoehnSaricCPSC\/status\/1613200634194415616\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statement<\/a> After the comments of Trumka, a President Joe Biden appointee and the son of ex-AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka garnered national controversy, he clarified that neither he nor his agency intends to prohibit gas stoves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past several days, there has been a lot of attention paid to gas stove emissions,\u201d Hoehn-Saric remarked. \u201cResearch indicates that emissions from gas stoves can be hazardous, and the CPSC is looking for ways to reduce related indoor air quality hazards. But to be clear, I am not looking to ban gas stoves and the CPSC has no proceeding to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hoehn-Saric serves as the principal executive officer at the CPSC. Trumka is one the three commissioners who serve as leaders of this agency. \u201creducing the unreasonable risk of injuries and deaths associated with consumer products.\u201d Some recent actions taken by the agency include: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Newsroom\/News-Releases\/2023\/Peloton-Agrees-to-Pay-19-Million-Civil-Penalty-for-Failure-to-Immediately-Report-Tread-Treadmill-Entrapment-Hazards-and-for-Distributing-Recalled-Treadmills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Imposition<\/a> Peloton will be subject to a $19million civil penalty for failing report a defect in its treadmills. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Newsroom\/News-Releases\/2023\/CPSC-Urges-Consumers-to-Immediately-Stop-Using-and-Safely-Store-Butterfly-Express-Essential-Oils-Including-Wintergreen-Birch-and-Other-Blends-Due-to-Failure-to-Meet-Child-Resistant-Packaging-Requirements-Risk-of-Poisoning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Publication<\/a> Warning about the use of essential oils from Butterfly Express<\/p>\n<p>Hoehn Saric said that the CPSC will continue to investigate the safety and use of gas appliances. \u201cCPSC is researching gas emissions in stoves and exploring new ways to address health risks,\u201d He continued. \u201cCPSC also is actively engaged in strengthening voluntary safety standards for gas stoves. And later this spring, we will be asking the public to provide us with information about gas stove emissions and potential solutions for reducing any associated risks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the American Gas Stove Association, 38% of American households use gas stoves to cook. This number is close to 70% in New Jersey and California. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/todayinenergy\/detail.php?id=53439\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Data<\/a> Energy Information Administration. Following a recent regulatory focus on appliances, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booker.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/booker_beyer_lead_colleagues_in_urging_cpsc_to_address_dangerous_indoor_air_pollutions_emitted_by_gas_stoves.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Letter<\/a> Democratic lawmakers expressed concern over their practices \u201crisks posed to consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStatistics show that Black, Latino, and low-income households are more likely to experience disproportionate air pollution,\u201d The letter contained the following: \u201ceither from being more likely to be located near a waste incinerator or coal ash site, or living in smaller homes with poor ventilation, malfunctioning appliances, mold, dust mites, secondhand smoke, lead dust, pests, and other maintenance deficiencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Critics of possible regulatory action claim that the CPSC did not conduct a meaningful analysis of the appliances. \u201cAttempts to generate consumer fears with baseless allegations to justify the banning of natural gas is a misguided agenda that will not improve the environment or the health of consumers and would saddle vulnerable populations with significant costs,\u201d According to the American Gas Association, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aga.org\/news\/news-releases\/aga-statement-on-the-international-journal-of-environmental-research-and-public-health-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When discussing the phaseout of gas stoves, Democratic lawmakers also raised concerns about climate change.
