The state law had made it impossible for concealed carry permits to be granted. \u201cgood moral character\u201d  \u201cproper cause.\u201d Thomas wrote the majority opinion of the Supreme Court that criticized this condition. New Yorkers were unlawfully required to demonstrate. \u201ca special need for self-defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know of no other constitutional right that an individual may exercise only after demonstrating to government officers some special need,\u201d He agreed. \u201cThat is not how the First Amendment works when it comes to unpopular speech or the free exercise of religion. It is not how the Sixth Amendment works when it comes to a defendant\u2019s right to confront the witnesses against him. And it is not how the Second Amendment works when it comes to public carry for self-defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More recently, however, officials in New York greenlit the Concealed Carry Improvement Act, which prohibits guns in certain locations, demands gun owners request a property owner\u2019s consent to carry on their premises, and requires a social media review ahead of gun purchases, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/press-release\/2022\/attorney-general-james-takes-action-maintain-concealed-carry-gun-laws-and-protect#:~:text=The%20law%20strengthens%20requirements%20for,of%20certain%20gun%20purchases%2C%20and\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statement<\/a> Letitia Jam, New York Attorney-General. Six residents challenged the law recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/DocketPDF\/22\/22A557\/250597\/20221221121323672_Antonyuk%20Application%20to%20Vacate%20Stay%20FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frequently Asked Questions<\/a> The Supreme Court may intervene.<\/p>\n<p>Republican lawmakers say that the Concealed Carry Improvement Act stands in defiance of the Supreme Court\u2019s landmark ruling last year. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-NY, introduced a <a href=\"https:\/\/stefanik.house.gov\/2022\/10\/stefanik-tenney-introduce-resolution-condemning-new-york-s-concealed-carry-law-as-unconstitutional\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resolution<\/a> To the House of Representatives, condemning the legislation as a violation of Second Amendment and encouraging all states support the right of bear arms.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, gun ownership restrictions have been introduced in several other states and localities that are controlled by Democratic officials. Oregon has a law. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/oregon-judge-freezes-gun-control-law-over-questions-about-fundamental-constitutional-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bans<\/a> The sale of magazines that can hold more than 10 bullets is prohibited. All customers must undergo a background check before purchasing a firearm. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney issues an executive order <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/judge-blocks-liberal-mayors-gun-ban\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Outlawed<\/a> The state bans firearms in recreational facilities within cities. Judges blocked both measures after they were challenged in court.<\/p>\n<p>According to The American Firearms Association, 31.9 million Americans have firearms. This represents 31.9%. <a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3887145\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Data<\/a> The most recent National Firearms Survey.
