The artillery duel was so devastating that many have compared it to the famous \u201cmeat grinder\u201d The 1916 Inauguration of World War I <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/news\/10-things-you-may-not-know-about-the-battle-of-verdun\">Battle of Verdun<\/a><\/u>The German forces launched a 10-month-long campaign of attrition in which they were determined to defeat the United States. \u201cbleeding the French white.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fighting was described by a top U.S. military commander as taking place in a triangle bordered by Bakhmut Soledar and Chasiv Yar. \u201creally severe and savage,\u201d With both sides trading small portions of territory and fields, rolling hills and other land features <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DefenceU\/status\/1611796835798241282?s=20&#038;t=xbrqPzOSSU_NTXPqE2Sdmw\">Littered with bodies<\/a><\/u> Many Russian soldiers serving in penal units were sent in waves by the advance Russian army to open the door for Wagner mercenaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you go back in Russian history, you&#8217;ll see that there are plenty of examples of the Russians trading individuals for bullets, and we&#8217;re seeing that in this area,\u201d Official <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Transcripts\/Transcript\/Article\/3262960\/senior-defense-official-holds-a-background-briefing\/\">At a Pentagon briefing, he told reporters<\/a><\/u>. \u201cThe prisoners from Wagner Group \u2026 once those folks go up and, you know, essentially take the brunt of whatever Ukrainian response there is, then you have better-trained forces that move behind them to claim the ground that these individuals have walked over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCombat footage <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/grahworin\/status\/1612699900197707777?s=20&#038;t=iGMcmN1V7TuEmkSBsQAqWQ\">widely circulated on social media<\/a><\/u> on January 9 shows Wagner Group fighters engaging in fierce small arms combat near the city administration building in central Soledar,\u201d According to the Institute for the Study of War, <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.understandingwar.org\/backgrounder\/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-january-9-2023\">latest campaign update<\/a><\/u>. \u201cWagner Group financier <b>Yevgeny Prigozhin<\/b> continues to use reports of Wagner Group success in Soledar to bolster the Wagner Group\u2019s reputation as an effective fighting force \u2026 Prigozhin emphasized on January 9 that \u2018exclusively\u2019 Wagner Group units are taking ground in Soledar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense-national-security\/putin-war-win-ukraine-sullivan\">A PUTIN&#8217;S WAR WILL NOT END UNLESS THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA CONVINCED OF DEFEAT<\/a><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>SOLEDAR AVAILABLE ELSEWHERE RUSSIAN CONTROL IS OFFENSIVE: <\/b>It is available in its <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DefenceHQ\/status\/1612694326710079488?s=20&#038;t=enXy-1YlO9-7HFeLiwrXCQ\">Daily Twitter Update<\/a><\/u>The British Defense Ministry stated that it appeared that Russian and Wagner forces had made an appearance. \u201ctactical advances\u201d The past four days have been \u201care likely in control\u201d About six miles north from Bakhmut is the Salt Mine Town of Soledar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of the fighting has focused on entrances to the 200 km-long disused salt mine tunnels which run underneath the district. Both sides are likely concerned that they could be used for infiltration behind their lines,\u201d The intelligence assessment was concluded. \u201cDespite the increased pressure on Bakhmut, Russia is unlikely to envelop the town imminently because Ukrainian forces maintain stable defensive lines in depth and control over supply routes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense-national-security\/disputed-russian-strike\">RUSSIA CLAIMS FATAL RETALIATORY STRIKE UKRAINE DENIES HAPPENED<\/a><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2018THIS IS WHAT MADNESS LOOKS LIKE\u2019: <\/b>His <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.president.gov.ua\/en\/news\/zavdyaki-stijkosti-nashih-voyiniv-u-soledari-mi-vigrali-dlya-80293\">Nightly Video Address<\/a><\/u>, Ukrainian President <b>Volodymyr Zelensky<\/b> Recognizing the extent of the fighting in the Donbas, the West has promised to speed up the delivery of new weapons and ammunition to the front.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do everything to ensure that there is as little time as possible between the agreement on additional support and the application of this support on the battlefield,\u201d Zelensky said. \u201cAlthough the invaders have now concentrated their greatest efforts on Soledar, the result of this difficult and long battle will be the liberation of our entire Donbas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zelensky said that even Russia&#8217;s brute force takes Soledar it will still be a Pyrrhic victory. \u201cWhat did Russia want to gain there? Everything is completely destroyed. There is almost no life left. And thousands of their people were lost. Kevin McCarthy<\/b> (R.CA) was elected Speaker of the House. Republicans adopted new operating rules to govern the 118th Congress, which promise greater transparency and participation by rank-and-file legislators in the writing and passage legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLawmaking should be open to all members, not just a select few, so that the best ideas win. That\u2019s what this rules package reflects,\u201d McCarthy stated in a <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.speaker.gov\/speaker-mccarthy-statement-on-passage-of-the-rules-package\/\">Statement<\/a><\/u> After the 220 to 213 vote, which was largely a party-line vote. \u201cRules that empower members to debate and legislate are replacing rules that silenced their voice and centralized power. How am I going to look at our allies in the eye and say, \u2018I need you to increase your defense budget,\u2019 but yet America is going to decrease ours?\u201d Gonzales asked about <i>Face the Nation<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone suggesting this package cuts defense spending is ignoring the math: there are not 218 members that support defense cuts and any budget resolution that tries to do so will fail,\u201d According to a centrist <b>Rep. motors for the U.S. Army\u2019s Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, the ballistic rocket that Ukraine has been using to devastating effect in the <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lockheedmartin.com\/en-us\/products\/himars.html\">Lockheed Martin HIMARS<\/a><\/u> United States supplied launchers<\/p>\n<p>We are proactively investing in production facilities and technologies in support of producing even higher rates of rocket motors faster and more affordably to meet our customer\u2019s anticipated demand,\u201d said <b>Jim Kalberer<\/b>, Northrop
