They also demonstrate how committed universities are towards racial preferences.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;UNC and Harvard have been doubling down on Ibram Kendi-style \u2018you have to be racist to be anti-racist\u2019 programming,&#8221; Ilya Shapiro is the Manhattan Institute&#8217;s director of constitutional studies. &#8220;Not only are these clear-cut legal violations, but it\u2019s not a good look as the Supreme Court scrutinizes the use of racial preferences in admissions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The McLean internship likely violates the Civil Rights Act of 1866\u2014now codified as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/section_1981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/section_1981&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1673449713001000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0VUi8V1tq_-KjoqvGiYjGn\">Section 1981<\/a> in the United States legal code\u2014which bans race discrimination in contracting, according to Jonathan Berry, a partner at Boyden Gray &#038; Associates, and Dan Morenoff, the executive director of the American Civil Rights Project. Morenoff stated that it could also be in violation of Title VI, which prohibits discrimination in federally funded entities.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Harvard <a href=\"https:\/\/hms.harvard.edu\/about-hms\/hms-affiliates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/hms.harvard.edu\/about-hms\/hms-affiliates&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1673449713001000&#038;usg=AOvVaw105XkofQCOTTAyGDfZLOS3\">Its website lists all the states<\/a> It &#8220;does not own or operate&#8221; It appears to be operating this program in its teaching hospitals.
