He argued that the committee did not follow its own rules by excluding the exhibits that he and his legal teams had entered into the record during Patel&#8217;s deposition.<\/p>\n<p>Patel claimed that nine of those exhibits were included in the key report.<a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2021\/Nov\/19\/2002896088\/-1\/-1\/1\/DODIG-2022-039%20V2%20508.PDF\">pdf<\/a>) released in November 2021 by the Biden Defense Department (DoD), which concluded that the actions the department took under the Trump administration to prepare for the Jan. 6 protests were \u201cappropriate\u201d And \u201ccomplied with laws, regulations, and other applicable guidance.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4942115\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy wp-image-4942115 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/jan.-6-hearing-1200x697-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Jan. 6 committee\" width=\"640\" height=\"372\"   style=\"display:none\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4942115 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/jan.-6-hearing-1200x697-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Jan. 6 committee\" width=\"640\" height=\"372\" \/><\/noscript> The Jan.6 Committee at the Canon House Office Building, Capitol Hill, Washington, Dec. 19, 2022. (Al Drago\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That report, Patel said, along with his testimony that former President Donald Trump\u2019s authorization of the deployment of 20,000 National Guardsmen to protect the Capitol, contradicted the committee\u2019s conclusions that Trump was responsible for the violence that occurred that day.<\/p>\n<p>Patel also pointed out that they declined additional assistance from federal law enforcement when offered, and both Mayor Muriel Bowser, and the Capitol Police (USCP), declined.<\/p>\n<p>Bowser made it clear that, as of Jan. 5, 2021 she will not request any additional federal law enforcement. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mayorbowser\/status\/1346530358674792466?lang=en\">Let me know<\/a> She had posted that statement to her Twitter account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be clear, the District of Columbia is not requesting other federal law enforcement personnel, and discourages any additional deployment without immediate notification to, and consultation with, MPD [Metropolitan Police Department] if such plans are underway,\u201d Bowser addressed the letter to Acting Defense secretary Chris Miller, Acting Attorney general Jeffrey Rosen and Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, according to the Capitol Police\u2019s official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/582682043\/January-6-Timeline#\">Jan. 6 timeline<\/a>The Pentagon reached out to USCP to confirm that a request for National Guardsmen had been considered. The USCP Deputy chief Gallagher replied the next day that \u201ca request for National Guard support is not forthcoming at this time after consultation with COP [chief of police] Sund.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Patel, both Bowser\u2019s letter and USCP\u2019s timeline were also submitted as exhibits but were not released along with the transcript of his deposition.<\/p>\n<p>Under the House\u2019s rules\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.govinfo.gov\/content\/pkg\/CPRT-117HPRT48217\/pdf\/CPRT-117HPRT48217.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) for deposition procedure, \u201cthe transcript and any exhibits shall be filed, as shall any video recording, with the clerk of the Committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The committee released exhibits based on other interviews and the supporting material for its investigation. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govinfo.gov\/collection\/january-6th-committee-final-report?path=\/gpo\/January%206th%20Committee%20Final%20Report%20and%20Supporting%20Materials%20Collection\/Supporting%20Materials%20-%20Video%20Exhibits\">Final report<\/a>Patel&#8217;s exhibits are not included in the list of exhibits that have been filed with the committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo surprise, the Jan. 6 Unselect Committee broke its rules, broke the House rules, broke its commitment\u2014and not just orally, but in writing to my legal team\u2014by saying the exhibits would be included,\u201d He stated. \u201cThey excluded every single exhibit.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Unanswered questions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Patel also criticised the committee for not investigating important questions and concerns which remain largely unanswered.<\/p>\n<p>His deposition did not focus on Jan. 6, he said, but was about other non-related matters that the committee needed information on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat just showed me that all they cared about, this committee, was setting up perjury traps and looking for political ammunition, not the facts,\u201d He stated.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3653438\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy wp-image-3653438 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/fb_image-1998.jpeg\" alt=\"capitol\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3653438 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/fb_image-1998.jpeg\" alt=\"capitol\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/noscript> On January 7, 2021, a Capitol Police officer is seen standing with members of National Guard behind a crowd control barrier surrounding Capitol Hill. (Brendan Smialowski\/AFP via Getty Images).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Patel stated that he still has questions about why there is an a. \u201cno-climb\u201d Prior to Jan. 6, no fence was built around Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>Patel recalled how he arrived at the scene on Jan. 6 after protests broke out and found no fence to secure the perimeter.<\/p>\n<p>He noticed that he was required to purchase the fence, and then had it put up by the National Guardsmen later that day. \u201cIf we could do it that fast, why wasn\u2019t it done before? What are they going to say, optics? They didn\u2019t have the intelligence? This committee never bothered to examine that question.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patel claims that he and other DoD officials offered the removal of the fence following the protests subsided. However, their offers were rejected both by Nancy Pelosi (D.Calif.) as well as the incoming Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p>The fence would remain in place for half a decade, as a reminder of Jan. 6 events to anyone who passed by.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what I believe that this partisan political charade was about,\u201d Patel stated. \u201cThey wanted the optics before Jan. 6 with no security, and they wanted the optics after Jan. 6 with heavy security to show that their political narrative was the one that was right. But when you look at the underlying facts, their narrative is defeated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patel also mentioned Ray Epps&#8217; role in the Capitol protests. He was filmed encouraging them to enter it on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<p>Epps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/6-takeaways-from-ray-eppss-jan-6-panel-testimony_4951794.html?utm_source=ai&#038;utm_medium=search\">maintains<\/a> that he was at the Capitol that day to support Trump, many have come to believe that he was there as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/ray-epps-was-worried-fast-moving-january-6-crowd-might-interfere-with-the-plan-kentucky-man-claims_4537876.html?utm_source=ai&#038;utm_medium=search\">provocateur<\/a>, potentially on the orders of the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>Noting that the FBI has repeatedly failed to give a straight answer on whether Epps is an operative of theirs or not, Patel said: \u201cLook, as a former federal prosecutor who ran sources and informants, if the answer is, \u2018This guy is not on our payroll, and we don\u2019t know him, and he did absolutely nothing for the United States government,\u2019 you come out hard and fast out of your press office and say those things. And those things have never been said by this DOJ or FBI about Ray Epps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patel also pointed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/house-republicans-call-on-pelosi-to-testify-about-jan-6-security-failures_4941011.html\">recent revelation<\/a> that Pelosi\u2019s office played a key role in planning security for the event and the fact that the FBI withheld a crucial report indicating thousands of protesters could show up at the Capitol as additional mysteries that should be investigated by the Republican-controlled House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, if the FBI and DOJ are willing to subpoena my records from five years ago, maybe we can get this Congress to actually subpoena some records of consequence to answer some of these questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>New Congress<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>With all of the recent \u201cTwitter Files\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fbi-faces-subpoenas-after-twitter-files-exposing-social-media-ties-house-republican_4932275.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disclosures<\/a> surrounding the FBI\u2019s alleged censorship of U.S. citizens on social media, Patel noted that future congressional investigations should not solely focus on Jan. 6 but span a wide range of activity at the Department of Justice and FBI.<\/p>\n<p>However, as the standoff among House Republicans over the next House speaker has yet to reach a conclusion, it may be some time before any such investigations can take place.<\/p>\n<p>While Patel did not endorse a specific person for the role or have any idea as to how it all would end, he emphasized the importance of selecting a speaker soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work of the United States Congress does not start until the speaker is elected,\u201d he noted. \u201cThat means none of the investigations you and I talked about can start, none of the subpoenas that we want to go out can be sent out\u2026 There\u2019s no Congress, as we know it operating.
