Since the recall was announced, more than 70 deaths have been reported. Eight of these deaths were reported to have occurred after the recall was announced.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The American Academy of Pediatrics will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019. <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/aapnews\/news\/9742?autologincheck=redirected\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Push<\/a> U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), to remove the baby sleeper from the marketplace. Consumer Reports was consulted in response to the demands. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerreports.org\/recalls\/fisher-price-rock-n-play-sleeper-should-be-recalled-consumer-reports-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigation<\/a> The investigation revealed that 32 babies had died in their baby seats since 2011, including ten in 2015. These deaths were highlighted in a Fisher-Price Safety Alert and a CPRSC Safety Alert. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Newsroom\/News-Releases\/2019\/CPSC-ALERT-CPSC-and-Fisher-Price-Warn-Consumers-About-Fisher-Price-Rock-N-Play-Due-to-Reports-of-Death-When-Infants-Roll-Over-in-the-Product\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Release<\/a> In 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI am thrilled that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Fisher-Price took the advice of the American Academy of Pediatrics and issued a recall of the Rock \u2018n Play Sleeper,\u201d Ben Hoffman, M.D., chair of the AAP Council on Injury, Violence and Poison Prevention said at the time. \u201cThis product is dangerous and I urge parents and caregivers to stop using it right away.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAs a pediatrician and a father, I know that infant sleep is a major concern for families, and pediatricians are ready to work with as many parents as possible to find solutions to help everyone sleep safely and soundly,\u201d Hoffman noted. \u201cWe know that inclined sleepers like the Rock \u2018n Play are not safe and put babies\u2019 Lives are at risk. I am glad to see this product off the market and urge all parents to talk to their pediatricians about how to keep their babies safe during sleep time and any time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fisher-Price <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerreports.org\/recalls\/fisher-price-rock-n-play-sleeper-should-be-recalled-consumer-reports-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Submitted<\/a> Consumer Reports reported in its 2019 investigation that it knew about 32 deaths. However, it didn&#8217;t think so. \u201cany deaths have been caused by the product,\u201d To \u201cthe many situations where a medical\/health condition was identified as the cause of death, and\/or those in which the product was clearly used in a manner contrary to the safety warnings and instructions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Consumer Reports was launched in the early part of last year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerreports.org\/baby-product-recalls\/deaths-linked-to-fisher-price-rock-n-play-after-recall-a1183945428\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> Numerous people who bought the sleeping device were suing Mattel and Fisher-Price, claiming they were never informed about the recall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It\u2019s common for companies to get low responses for recalls on items, but the situation was especially concerning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt\u2019s outrageous that millions of these dangerous products could still be out there, with babies at risk of being seriously injured or killed,\u201d Oriene Shin, Consumer Report\u2019s product safety policy counsel, said at the time. \u201cFisher-Price has had years to get Rock \u2019n Plays out of people\u2019s homes yet, at best, appears to have done the bare minimum.
