(Jim Watson\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/mcdonalds-to-make-staff-changes-by-april-as-part-of-broader-revamp-11673033622\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> on Friday, Kempczinski said \u201csome jobs that are existing today are either going to get moved or those jobs may go away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He told the outlet that he expects to save money as part of the staffing changes, but does not have a set amount of jobs to be cut or money that needs to be saved.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s plans to inform affected workers by April 3.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, we\u2019re divided into silos with a center, segments, and markets,\u201d Kempczinski wrote. \u201cThis approach is outdated and self-limiting\u2014we are trying to solve the same problems multiple times, aren\u2019t always sharing ideas and can be slow to innovate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s current organization is divided into three segments: the United States, internationally operated markets, and international developmental licensed markets. The company operates in 119 markets across the world.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s also plans to speed up its development plans for new restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must accelerate the pace of our restaurant openings to fully capture the increased demand we\u2019ve driven over the past few years,\u201d Kempczinski said in the memo.<\/p>\n<p>He also added: \u201cWhile there\u2019s a lot for us to be proud of, you\u2019ve also told us that there\u2019s more we can do. We\u2019re performing at a high level, but we can do even better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s employed around 200,000 corporate staff and workers at company-owned restaurants at the end of 2021, according to its latest annual report. More than 75 percent of them were based outside of the United States.
