According to <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/04\/the-1619-project-docuseries-hulu-lionsgate-oprah-winfrey-nikole-hannah-jones-1234726133\/\">Deadline,<\/a> Shoshana Person, an Emmy candidate, and Peabody award winner will sign up with the series as a showrunner. <\/p>\n<p> Williams stated, &#8220;\u2018The 1619 Project\u2019 is an essential reframing of American history. Our most cherished ideals and achievements cannot be understood without acknowledging both systemic racism and the contributions of Black Americans. And this isn\u2019t just about the past\u2014Black people are still fighting against both the legacy of this racism and its current incarnation. I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to work with The New York Times, Lionsgate Television, Harpo Films, and Hulu to translate the incredibly important \u2018The 1619 Project\u2019 into a documentary series.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/nikole-hannah-jones-criticizes-black-activist\">Hannah-Jones<\/a> mentioned, &#8220;I could not ask for a more gifted and committed storyteller to entrust \u2018The 1619 Project\u2019 to than Roger Ross Williams. I have long admired the impact and authenticity of his filmmaking, and the fact that we\u2019re working with Disney and Hulu aligns with our vision of partnering with the world\u2019s greatest Black storytellers to bring this project to a global audience.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p> Hannah-Jones composed the function in 2019 to honor the 400th anniversary of the very first African servants getting here in colonial Virginia, intending to &#8220;reframe the country\u2019s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p> Nevertheless, the \u201c1619 Project\u201d was knocked by historians as being incorrect and for pressing a deceptive story about slavery&#8217;s function in the American Transformation. <\/p>\n<p> Civil liberties figure Robert Woodson called the piece, &#8220;one of the most\u00a0diabolical, self-destructive\u00a0ideas that I&#8217;ve ever heard.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p> The series was even slammed by Hannah-Jones&#8217; associate, New york city Times writer and colleague of Hannah-Jones <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/10\/09\/opinion\/nyt-1619-project-criticisms.html\">Bret Stephens<\/a> stated of the task in 2015, &#8220;Journalists are, most often, in the business of writing the first rough draft of history, not trying to have the last word on it. We are best when we try to tell truths with a lowercase t, following evidence in directions unseen, not the capital-T truth of a pre-established narrative in which inconvenient facts get discarded.\u00a0And we\u2019re supposed to report and comment on the political and cultural issues of the day, not become the issue itself.
