Ron DeSantis was reinaugurated yesterday after winning another term by an astonishing 19.5-point margin. DeSantis won a victory in the blue-tinted elections cycle four years ago, despite being outvoted by the polls. The state and the national media bombarded him with constant fire, especially during COVID. DeSantis gained steam and popularity while he fought and won these battles. His policies and promotion of Florida as a citadelof freedom’ during an age of mandates, restrictions and lockdowns served the state well. Voting was first done with the feet of voters; many as touristsMany were also made permanent residents. After that, people voted and DeSantis did something truly extraordinary in an election. distinctly less heartening For his party, nationally. Here is the message the governor sent Floridians after taking office for a fourth term.

The Florida legislative session, which gives DeSantis an opportunity to make points on the board in terms of conservative bona fides as well as overall governance, is scheduled for 2023. Multiple reports suggest that DeSantis won’t announce a possible 2024 presidential campaign until after this session ends. in the spring. In the meantime, the campaign team extends a warm welcome and greeting to all new residents. politely encouraging them Remember to do this Why They moved to Florida from somewhere else, especially if they were originally from blue states.

Florida is your home… remember why you left the blue states? pic.twitter.com/kuqqCK1lxm

— DeSantis War Room 🐊 (@DeSantisWarRoom) January 2, 2023

Based on November’s results I believe that the message was well-received by the expanded Sunshine State electorate. Although I am not a political expert, I believe the righthand column of states that lead in net migration may have something in common. The same is true for the lefthand column on out-migration. Here, the five most Democratic states may be the top five. These dynamics were addressed by DeSantis in his speech. The graphic used by the DeSantis War Room comes from a Wall Street Journal editorial published In December, the following was published: “The Blue State Exodus Continues:”

Florida and Texas make up approximately 15% of the U.S.’s population, but they accounted for 70% growth in its population this year. That’s one of the revealing facts in the Census Bureau’s annual assessment of U.S. migration released last week. The biggest news is that the exodus from progressive-led states hasn’t slowed even as Covid lockdowns eased. Between July 2021-2022, the U.S. population grew approximately 1.2 million. One million of that was due to foreign immigration. However, the Census Bureau revealed that some states have lost population due to immigration from other states exceeding foreign migration. California (343.230), New York (299.557), and Illinois (1141,656) were the states that lost the most residents. New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Michigan and Oregon, Massachusetts and Massachusetts were also big losers. Are all these people moving to other states? These are states with lower taxes, better housing options and a higher standard for living. It’s notable that the population outflow from progressive states didn’t slow after lockdowns eased and many employers called workers back to the office. The mortgage interest rates rose, making it more costly to purchase a home anywhere, not just in progressive areas. Democratic Governors can’t blame bad weather. All of Illinois’s neighbors except Michigan gained population.

This piece also refers to the DeSantis-vs. Gavin Newsom feud we’ve discussed previouslyThis is a result of Newsom’s political stuntery, and trash talk.

It is strikingly and instructive to see the stark contrast between California and Florida. Gov. Gavin Newsom placed ads in Florida encouraging residents this summer “to join us in California, where we still believe in freedom.” While women in California are free to have an abortion on demand, they can’t choose where their children go to school. Restaurants aren’t even free to hand out plastic straws. Florida doesn’t have an income tax and offers a large number of private school choices. It also doesn’t smother businesses with regulation. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis doesn’t have to run ads in progressive states. The Sunshine State is self-selling.

Florida’s leader has reacted to Newsom’s needling and barbs in some detailBut the general gist behind his rebuttal could be described in one word. “Scoreboard.” Relatedly, this is fairly amusing:

Hochul should then be urged to move to Florida

*Republicans move to Florida*

Hochul now: “We must reverse the trend of people leaving our state”

Clown Show pic.twitter.com/bSu4rB9MiJ

— John Hasson (@SonofHas) January 2, 2023

Ironically, Hochul was barely reelected last fall because New Yorkers fled to Florida.
