But the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/12\/29\/gop-senator-urges-dems-to-join-probe-of-fbi-politicized-federal-law-enforcement-after-twitter-files-expose\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter Files revealed<\/a> just how far some Big Tech companies have gone to suppress legitimate scientific dissent\u2014particularly on COVID-19 pandemic policy.<\/p>\n<p>Jay Bhattacharya (a Stanford professor of policy in health), was put on the Twitter Trends Blacklist for advocating for focus protection of vulnerable people and ending lockdowns. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/what-we-learned-in-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Free Press<\/a> The lesson he learned 2022. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI learned in a very concrete and painful way the effects of Washington and Silicon Valley working together to marginalize unpopular ideas and people to create an illusion of consensus,\u201d Bhattacharya wrote. <\/p>\n<p>He and his associates published the anti-lockdown document, which he recalled to Stanford. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/05\/13\/how-should-rhode-island-respond-to-the-great-barrington-awokening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Great Barrington Declaration<\/a>Francis Collins, National Institutes of Health Director, fired Collins and his aides. \u201cfringe epidemiologists\u201d We asked Anthony Fauci about it. \u201ca quick and devastating published takedown\u201d This declaration. Collins and Fauci worked together to delegitimize this declaration, despite the fact that it was based on scientific principles.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter\u2019s COVID-19 censorship spread far beyond Bhattacharya, as the Free Press journalist David Zweig revealed in an installment of The Twitter Files.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/12\/06\/twitter-files-why-they-matter-and-whats-next-for-elon-musk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter cast aspersions<\/a> The medical opinion was that of Dr. Martin Kulldorff at Harvard Medical School. He disagreed with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThinking that everyone must be vaccinated is as scientifically flawed as thinking that nobody should,\u201d Kulldorff wrote. \u201cCOVID vaccines are important for older high-risk people, and their care-takers. Those with prior natural infection do not need it. Nor children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even though Kulldorff\u2019s statement represented both an expert opinion <em><\/em> Twitter identified the reason behind vaccine policies in other nations. \u201cfalse information\u201d It differed from CDC guidelines.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">23. After Twitter took action, Kulldorff\u2019s tweet was slapped with a \u201cMisleading\u201d label and all replies and likes were shut off, throttling the tweet\u2019s ability to be seen and shared by many people, the ostensible core function of the platform: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Qa1HpaEray\">pic.twitter.com\/Qa1HpaEray<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Zweig (@davidzweig) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidzweig\/status\/1607387181957488642?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 26, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Twitter took action against one tweet that had been corrected, in an especially egregious case <em>actual misinformation<\/em>, using the CDC\u2019s own data. <\/p>\n<p>This was written by a user \u201csince December of 2021 COVID has been the leading cause of death from disease in children.\u201d Kelley Kga is a self-described public-health fact-checker. She provided data from the CDC that showed COVID-19 was not a leading cause of death for children. <\/p>\n<p>Twitter flagged this tweet as \u201cMisleading,\u201d Disabling likes and replies. The platform also added a note about how health officials support the COVID-19 vaccinations, which was not addressed in the original tweet. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">27. It&#8217;s tellingly that the tweet was sent by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KelleyKga?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@KelleyKga<\/a> That was labeled \u201cMisleading\u201d This was a response to a tweet that contained misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>Covid has not been the leading cause to death from childhood diseases, But that tweet still exists, and it isn&#8217;t without reason. \u201cmisleading\u201d label. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vK5NpWg8KT\">pic.twitter.com\/vK5NpWg8KT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Zweig (@davidzweig) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidzweig\/status\/1607388288717058054?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 26, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>After receiving five misinformation strikes, Dr. Andrew Bostom, a Rhode Island physician was permanently banned from Twitter. After Bostom\u2019s attorney contacted Twitter, the company\u2019s internal audit found that only 1 of his 5 violations had been valid. <\/p>\n<p>Even that tweet contained credible data. Bostom had provided data that indicated that the flu is more deadly than COVID-19 and that COVID-19 vaccinations cause more serious morbidity for children than flu vaccines. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">30. A review of Twitter log files revealed that an internal audit, conducted after Bostom\u2019s attorney contacted Twitter, found that only 1 of Bostom\u2019s 5 violations were valid. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ohlmHFOuQX\">pic.twitter.com\/ohlmHFOuQX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Zweig (@davidzweig) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidzweig\/status\/1607389285342384129?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 26, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Another example is that Twitter executives may have been tempted by the pandemic to censor Donald Trump&#8217;s tweets. Trump wrote on October 5, 2020, that he was leaving Walter Reed Medical Center. \u201cfeeling really good! Don\u2019t be afraid of Covid. Don\u2019t let it dominate your life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jim Baker, then Twitter\u2019s deputy general counsel, asked Yoel Roth, then Twitter\u2019s head of Trust and Safety, \u201cWhy isn\u2019t this POTUS tweet a violation of our COVID-19 policy (especially the \u2018Don\u2019t be afraid of Covid\u2019 statement)?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roth has a history advocating censorship. However, he was able to stand with common sense in this case. He pointed out that \u201cthis tweet is a broad, optimistic statement. It doesn\u2019t incite people to do something harmful, nor does it recommend against taking precautions or following mask directives (or other guidelines). It doesn\u2019t fall within the published scope of our policies.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>Zweig observed that \u201cTwitter made a decision, via the political leanings of senior staff, and govt pressure, that the public health authorities\u2019 approach to the pandemic\u2014prioritizing mitigation over other concerns\u2014 was \u2018The Science&#8217;\u201d targeted information that challenges that view for moderation and suppression.<\/p>\n<p>Big Tech is taking steps to suppress opposition from liberal narratives regarding science on more topics than COVID-19. <\/p>\n<p>As I reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/facebook-slammed-for-stifling-wrong-think-on-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox Business in 2021<\/a>Facebook has used fact-check-style to promote false claims about climate change consensus. \u201cinformation\u201d Notes for various posts <\/p>\n<p>Facebook\u00a0launched\u00a0the \u201cClimate Science Information Center\u201d In February 2021, the United Kingdom\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/2\/18\/22288439\/facebook-label-climate-change-posts-misinformation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expanded the effort<\/a>\u00a0To more than 100 countries before the COP26 summit at Glasgow, Scotland.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Facebook posted a note about the event. \u201cSee how the average temperature in your area is changing\u201d to specific climate-related posts. The note directs users toward a climate centre, which states that \u201cthe cause of climate change is widely agreed upon in the scientific community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least 97% of published climate experts agree that global warming is real and caused by humans,\u201d The Facebook center claims. \u201cThe myth that scientists disagree on climate change sometimes comes from misleading petitions that don\u2019t accurately represent the climate science community.\u201d Facebook warns about such petitions \u201ctypically include non-scientists and scientists working in unrelated fields.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another graphic on the Facebook climate centre argues that \u201cno natural factors can explain how fast the planet is warming today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 97% claim is not just unreliable, it\u2019s patently false. Facebook\u2019s claim traces back to a study led by John Cook entitled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.1088\/1748-%209326\/8\/2\/024024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Quantifying the consensus on anthropogenic global warming in the scientific literature<\/u><\/a>\u201d and published in the journal Environmental Research Letters\u00a0in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/tyler-o-neil\/2019\/07\/10\/libertarian-group-demands-nasa-remove-false-97-percent-consensus-global-warming-claim-n67092\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study analyzed<\/a>\u00a0The terms were used in all peer-reviewed academic research papers that were published between 1991 and 2011. \u201cglobal warming\u201d Or \u201cglobal climate change.\u201d The study divided the papers into seven different categories and combined three to create 3,896 papers. This was in addition to comparing them with other categories that made up 118 papers. The study ignored the majority of papers it examined (66.4%, 7,930 out of 11,944 papers). The authors were able to come up with a 97% figure by eliminating these papers.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the scientists who wrote the original papers Cook\u2019s team analyzed complained that this study\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.populartechnology.net\/2013\/05\/97-study-falsely-classifies-scientists.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>mischaracterized their research<\/u><\/a>. The survey \u201cincluded 10 of my 122 eligible papers. 5\/10 were rated incorrectly. 4\/5 were rated as endorse rather than neutral,\u201d Richard Tol, professor at Vrije Univeriteit of economics and climate change, complained.<\/p>\n<p>Big Tech platforms promoted pro-abortion speakers and messages over pro-life ones.<\/p>\n<p>One month after Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/07\/25\/youtube-to-remove-content-promoting-unsafe-abortion-methods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YouTube announced<\/a> That it would \u201cremove content that provides instructions for unsafe abortion methods or promotes false claims about abortion safety under our medical misinformation policies.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Although it is sensible to keep videos of self-managed abortions safe and legal, this statement applies equally to. <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/youtube\/answer\/10834785?hl=en&#038;ref_topic=10833358#zippy=%2Ccontradicting-expert-consensus-on-safe-medical-practices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YouTube\u2019s policy<\/a> Contrary content is prohibited \u201cexpert consensus\u201d on \u201cchemical and surgical abortion methods deemed safe by health authorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/google-live-action-pro-life-groups-ads-unproven-medical-claims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google has used<\/a> this policy to ban Live Action\u2019s ads promoting the abortion pill reversal, a practice that has saved at least 2,500 children, according to Live Action President Lila Rose. <\/p>\n<p>Google has made it clear that they will no longer store location information for people who visit abortion clinics. This is effective as of 2018. <a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/tyler-o-neil\/2018\/12\/24\/liberal-slate-writer-brags-about-getting-pro-life-videos-hidden-from-youtube-abortion-search-n62735\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Slate writer bragged<\/a> In an email she sent to Google, she encouraged Google to alter its YouTube search algorithm. \u201cabortion,\u201d Promoting Planned Parenthood groups over videos that expose the horrifying reality of abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Big Tech has also taken aim at transgender orthodoxy. The platform&#8217;s capabilities were expanded in October 2018. \u201chateful conduct\u201d Policy to include \u201ctargeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals.\u201d Many news outlets, including Focus on the Family\u2019s Daily Citizen, The Christian Post, and PJ Media, along with the Christian satire site The Babylon Bee, have found their Twitter accounts suspended for the crime of referring to Dr. Rachel Levine, a Biden administration official and biological male who identifies as female, as a man.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube also took a stand against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2019\/11\/05\/youtube-wont-let-a-medical-doctor-say-this-sentence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Daily Signal<\/a>  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/press\/youtube-censors-heritage-foundation-video-gender-dysphoria\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Heritage Foundation<\/a>The Heritage Foundation has censored the testimony of a doctor, and a man who was previously identified as a female. (The Daily Signal is the Heritage Foundation\u2019s news outlet.)<\/p>\n<p>Levine, who is the assistant secretary of the federal Department of Health and Human Services has encouraged medical professionals to support transgender identity and even called for them to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/12\/29\/trans-inquisition-rachel-levine-enlists-state-medical-boards-pressure-big-tech-stamp-transgender-heresy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pressure Big Tech<\/a> To \u201ccreate a healthier, cleaner information environment.\u201d This was after he had lamented the spread \u201cmisinformation\u201d On \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d Falsely claiming that \u201cthe positive value of gender-affirming care for youth and adults is not in scientific or medical dispute.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 is perhaps the most recent and most serious example. But each case shows how Big Tech, Left and Big Tech use the illusions of scientific consensus in order to silence public policy debates. The science is not clear on the issues of pandemics, climate change, transgenderism, abortion, and climate change. <em>Not<\/em> settled in favor of the Left\u2019s policy agenda, and Big Tech themselves are spreading misinformation when they claim that it is.<\/p>\n<p><em>Do you have a comment about this article?
