Schiff is the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee and led the House team during former President Donald Trump\u2019s first impeachment trial in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter denied Schiff\u2019s request to suspend Sperry after the November 2020 request. Sperry was finally suspended by Twitter in February 2021. The suspension on Sperry\u2019s account has since been lifted after Elon Musk bought the platform last year in a $44 billion deal.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">27.They also received an astonishing variety of requests from officials asking for individuals they didn\u2019t like to be banned. Here, Adam Schiff, chief of the House Intel Committee (Office for Democrat) asks Twitter to ban Paul Sperry. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SXI1ekqi13\">pic.twitter.com\/SXI1ekqi13<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matt Taibbi (@mtaibbi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mtaibbi\/status\/1610394284867436547?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 3, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow is a Congressional leader demanding the banning of a veteran journalist from the nation\u2019s digital town square not state censorship?\u201d Sperry <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/paulsperry_\/status\/1610464549051813889\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a> He posted a tweet on Tuesday, one his first tweets since 2021&#8217;s suspension.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s now clear my two-year ban was political,\u201d He concluded.<\/p>\n<p>According to the email, which was reported by journalist Matt Taibbi, Schiff\u2019s office wanted action taken against Twitter accounts that were engaged in conduct \u201crelated to alleged harassment from QAnon conspiracists\u201d against Schiff\u2019s staff. Schiff requested the platform \u201cremove any and all content about [Sean Misko] and other Committee staff from its service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schiff\u2019s office also demanded Twitter \u201c[s]uspend the many accounts, including @GregRubini and @paulsperry_, which have repeatedly promoted false QAnon conspiracies\u201d The email stated that harassed employees were being sent, as well as several other requests.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter replied that it would. \u201creview these accounts again,\u201d suggesting that the request from Schiff\u2019s office was made more than once. The Twitter official replied to multiple requests to deamplify and suppress certain content. \u201cwe don\u2019t do this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sperry will be available in January 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearinvestigations.com\/articles\/2020\/01\/22\/whistleblower_was_overheard_in_17_discussing_with_ally_how_to_remove_trump_121701.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> on Misko and conversations the then-Schiff staffer had with Eric Ciaramella, a CIA analyst who allegedly acted as a whistleblower over Trump\u2019s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that served as the basis for Trump\u2019s first impeachment. According to reports, Ciaramella and Misko had spoken years before about \u201cplotting to actually have [Trump] removed from office,\u201d Sperry was told by a colleague who said he had overheard the conversations.<\/p>\n<p>Schiff, reportedly at the time, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/paulsperry_\/status\/1223000988585529350\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dismissed<\/a> Misko was accused of making the allegations. \u201cattacks\u201d And \u201csmears on my staff.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic Rep.
