He also said that he wouldn&#8217;t have been able to get to the point he is today if he hadn&#8217;t played that role.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to pull over because I was crying so hard. I turned right back around and walked into my house shaking to tell my wife I had gotten the role, and we were both standing there freaking out,\u201d Bautista spoke of the moment that he realized he was successful. His life prior to that had been a roller coaster \u2014 wrestling with the WWE and then losing nearly everything once he left the ring to pursue acting.<\/p>\n<p>Bautista explained that he had used the success of \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy\u201d to catapult himself into different roles \u2014 and he used each of those roles to learn how to make himself a better actor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m obsessed with it. It\u2019s this puzzle that I can\u2019t figure out. You don\u2019t know if it\u2019s right, but sometimes it\u00a0<em>feels<\/em> right. I don\u2019t get those moments a lot, but every once in a while I do. And f***, to me, there\u2019s nothing like it. It\u2019s a natural high. It\u2019s an addiction,\u201d He elaborated.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/news\/dave-bautista-marvel-exit-relief-drax-too-silly-1235478605\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to Bautista<\/a>, Drax has taken him as far as he can \u2014 and he\u2019s ready for the ride to end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there\u2019s a relief [that it\u2019s over]. It wasn\u2019t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role,\u201d He said. \u201cThe makeup process was beating me down. And I just don\u2019t know if I want Drax to be my legacy\u2014it\u2019s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That said, Bautista has also lamented the fact that Marvel did not do more to bring Drax\u2019s backstory to the forefront. There are scenes in which he references his family \u2014 more to bolster the focus on his desire for revenge than to develop him further as a character \u2014 but not much is said beyond that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really wished they would have invested more in Drax, personally. Because I think Drax has more of a story to tell,\u201d Bautista <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/dave-bautista-guardians-of-the-galaxy-3-drax-comments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told Collider<\/a> 2021 \u201cI think Drax has a really interesting backstory, which they dropped the ball on. That\u2019s no dig on Marvel. They had their slate, I know what they\u2019re focused on, that\u2019s what they have [it] slated out. But man, I think they really missed the ball on Drax. He has such a great backstory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bautista has portrayed Drax, but he is expected to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe. \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3,\u201d opening in early May 2023 \u2014 a move that Bautista predicted in 2021:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrax isn\u2019t going anywhere. He just won\u2019t be played by this dude! by the time G3 comes out I\u2019ll be 54 yrs old for gods sake! \u00a0im expecting everything to start sagging any second now,\u201d The actor tweeted.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Drax isn\u2019t going anywhere.
