The answer was quick, but not in a way you might expect.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11518463\/Fury-Army-Lieutenant-Colonel-calls-cops-New-Jersey-mom-online-complaints-school.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Army officer<\/a>\u00a0at Joint Base\u00a0McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst\u00a0in New Jersey called state and local law enforcement and used base security forces to monitor the supposedly unsafe situation she had created in the school district where more than half of the students are children of active-duty military personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Another example from this year: A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2022\/09\/01\/us\/kansas-teacher-suspend-settle\/index.html?utm_term=link&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_content=2022-09-02T07%3A00%3A34&#038;utm_source=fbCNN&#038;fbclid=IwAR3uyZ3Jprulg7yO5VHQ0Ld62C0byjciWL1hvgw9X7y5-9POpLUd4G18XOw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">teacher<\/a>\u00a0at an on-base, non-Department of Defense (DOD) school who refused to use a student\u2019s \u201cpreferred\u201d The school then disciplined the student. Such forced political ideology isn\u2019t isolated to non-DOD schools that serve military bases; it\u2019s also happening in federally run Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) schools, which are schools expressly created for the children of military personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Many members of Congress have taken the initiative to bring attention to the political indoctrination which has infiltrated DODEA. Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York introduced the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stefanik.house.gov\/2022\/6\/stefanik-proposes-servicemember-parents-bill-of-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Servicemember Parents Bill of Rights<\/a>,\u00a0which was included in its entirety in the first House-passed version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rules.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.rules.house.gov\/files\/BILLS-117HR7776EAS-RCP117-70.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">final language<\/a>\u00a0agreed upon by the House and Senate and signed into law by President Joe Biden on Dec. 23 was significantly watered down \u2014 and it requires no change in practice or acknowledgment of wrongdoing by DODEA.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Protections Watered Down <\/p>\n<p>The most important parts from Stefanik\u2019s amendment \u2014 that clarified that schools must be transparent with parents when it comes to the contents of teacher training, library books, and medical treatment of their children at school \u2014 were removed.<\/p>\n<p>For example, Stefanik\u2019s amendment stipulates that DODEA schools should \u201cmake all \u2026 educator professional development materials, including teachers\u2019 manuals, films, tapes, books or other reading materials, or other supplementary materials used in any survey, analysis, or evaluation, available for inspection by the parents of children attending the school.\u201d It states that DODEA schools must be open at the beginning of each school year. \u201cprovide parents a list of reading materials in the school library, including a list of any reading materials that were added to or removed from the list of materials from the prior year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What is the point of such clarification? Senators and congressmen would have taken the time to investigate and listen to claims made in their respective armed service committees by Stefanik and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.) about the 2021 Equity and Access Summit.
