Mark Warner, D-VA, then-Ranking member on the Senate Intelligence Committee was \u201cfurious\u201d over Twitter\u2019s report to the U.S. Senate that showed that the company only suspended \u201c22 possible Russian accounts, and 179 others with \u2018possible links\u2019 to those accounts, amid a larger set of roughly 2700 suspects manually examined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">7.Receiving these meager results, a furious Senator Mark Warner of Virginia \u2013 ranking Democrat on the Intelligence Committee \u2013 held an immediate press conference to denounce Twitter\u2019s report as \u201cfrankly inadequate on every level.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DAkX13igEE\">pic.twitter.com\/DAkX13igEE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matt Taibbi (@mtaibbi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mtaibbi\/status\/1610372367909363714?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 3, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After Warner had sent out a fundraising message asking for money, Twitter officials made a mockery of Warner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWarner has political incentive to keep this issue at top of the news, maintain pressure on us and rest of industry to keep producing material for them, and generate interest for the Nov 1st hearing that is planned,\u201d Crowell made the comments in an email to Jack Dorsey (then-Twitter CEO).<\/p>\n<p>Crowell noted then that Democrats were \u201ctaking cues from Hillary Clinton,\u201d Who was trying to blame everyone but herself for her loss during the 2016 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>Taibbi pointed out that Clinton spoke that week. \u201cIt\u2019s time for Twitter to stop dragging its heels and live up to the fact that its platform is being used as a tool for cyber-warfare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">10.\u201cTAKING THEIR CUES FROM HILLARY CLINTON\u201d Crowell stated that Dems are following Hillary Clinton&#8217;s lead, which she said the following week: \u201cIt\u2019s time for Twitter to stop dragging its heels and live up to the fact that its platform is being used as a tool for cyber-warfare.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hLvh9rTNeP\">pic.twitter.com\/hLvh9rTNeP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matt Taibbi (@mtaibbi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mtaibbi\/status\/1610372376792891395?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 3, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn growing anxiety over its PR problems, Twitter formed a \u2018Russia Task Force\u2019 to proactively self-investigate,\u201d Taibbi continued citing internal company documents. \u201cThe \u2018Russia Task Force\u2019 started mainly with data shared from counterparts at Facebook, centered around accounts supposedly tied to Russia\u2019s Internet Research Agency (IRA).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Twitter did a thorough investigation. \u201cno evidence of a coordinated approach\u201d They manually reviewed many accounts they flagged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the accounts found seem to be lone-wolf type activity,\u201d Twitter:<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">13.
