He was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/eagles\/live\/damar-hamlin-buffalo-bills-collapse-hospital-bengals-game-20230103.html#card-1621569258\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> team captain and a heavily recruited all-state team member, winning awards like being named the\u00a0division\u2019s defensive player of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCentral Catholic High School is praying for the well being and swift recovery of Damar Hamlin, \u201816,\u201d the school\u2019s Twitter account posted Monday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMay the Lord be with him and his family during this most difficult time. May the Lord be with him and his family during this most difficult time.<\/p>\n<p>Hamlin collapsed during the Monday Night Football game against the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Bengals?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Bengals<\/a> on 1-02-23. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xIT6XS8k4h\">pic.twitter.com\/xIT6XS8k4h<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Central Catholic (@centralvikings) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/centralvikings\/status\/1610109350328016897?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 3, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After high school, Hamlin decided on attending the University of Pittsburgh so he could remain close to his family.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019S said that he was free to choose from any school he wanted, but \u201cwanted locals to be proud of Pittsburgh,\u201d college football writer Thor Nystrum <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/eagles\/live\/damar-hamlin-buffalo-bills-collapse-hospital-bengals-game-20230103.html#card-1621569258\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The college years were when the athlete was a student. <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.cbn.com\/cbnnews\/entertainment\/2023\/january\/buffalo-bills-safety-damar-hamlin-collapses-on-field-team-prays-as-he-gets-cpr-game-suspended\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> He spoke out about his faith, saying, \u201cMy faith is in God. So whatever He has planned for me, that\u2019ll be it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The football star\u2019s family, particularly his mother Nina, seem to be very important to Hamlin.<\/p>\n<p>Nina was there Monday when her son collapsed on the field. The ambulance took off to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center after Nina was rushed from the stands to be by her son\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p>Hamlin was born in 1998 to Nina Hamlin (father Mario Hamlin) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/sport\/7041548\/who-damar-hamlin-father-mario\/\">reportedly<\/a> Just 16 years old. Mario was just 16 years old when he was arrested in connection with drug dealing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m extremely close to my family,\u201d Hamlin\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wivb.com\/sports\/staying-close-to-home-paid-off-in-more-ways-than-one-for-bills-draft-pick-damar-hamlin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> News 4 will be back in 2021. \u201cMy mom, she was sixteen when she had me and I just try to think about when I was sixteen years old and I just couldn\u2019t imagine having a little boy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was probably so stressful but both of my parents had me young, at sixteen and pretty much since that point they put everything they had into me to get me to where we are right now today,\u201d He elaborated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was us at first, just me and my mom and my dad and they taught me hard work. They taught me you gotta work for everything you and basically they just taught me all of the lessons of life,\u201d Hamlin also added.<\/p>\n<p>Hamlin shared another interview clip with Henry McKenna from FOX Sports, where he also spoke glowingly about his family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mom, my dad, my little brother, like that\u2019s pretty much my whole world, outside of any other thing going on; my life revolves around them,\u201d He said. \u201cI don\u2019t really do too much without my mom and dad\u2019s opinion.
