Petrzela explains that early fitness fans of the 20th-century encouraged exercise for the purpose of growing the white population. <\/p>\n<p>They said we should get rid of corsets, corsets are an assault on women\u2019s form, and that women should be lifting weights and gaining strength. This seems so progressive at first.<\/p>\n<p>Then you keep reading, and they\u2019re saying white women should start building up their strength because we need more white babies. They\u2019re writing during an incredible amount of immigration, soon after enslaved people have been emancipated. This is a part of white supremacy. That was a real! \u2018holy crap\u2019 moment as historian, where deep archive research really reveals these contradictions.<\/p>\n<p>Petrzela continued to support the pro-fat movement, admonishing common-sense beliefs about overweight people in fitness areas. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, you see quite a few fat people in the fitness industry, who are operating from a better perspective, which is that your body size does not necessarily dictate your fitness level,\u201d Petrzela said. \u201cWe should not presume that because you are fat, that you are not fit or that you want to lose weight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These assumptions are not true. What <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/12\/ulta-beauty-is-encouraging-women-to-be-fat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pro-fat influencers miss<\/a> In their efforts to redefine the meaning of &#8220;being&#8221; \u201cfit\u201d It is true that obese people are not considered obese. <em>may<\/em> live just as long as those without excess weight \u2014 though obesity and the comorbidities that often accompany it can affect longevity \u2014 they may not live <em>Also<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Obesity is associated with higher risks of stroke, heart disease, diabetes and cancers.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/healthyweight\/effects\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">few<\/a> \u2014 not to mention the present burden of extra weight putting stress on joints and other parts of the body.<\/p>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) estimates that nearly 80% of Americans have a chronic disease. <a href=\"https:\/\/nccd.cdc.gov\/dnpao_dtm\/rdPage.aspx?rdReport=DNPAO_DTM.ExploreByTopic&#038;islClass=OWS&#038;islTopic=&#038;go=GO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">67 percent<\/a> A minimum of 10% of Americans are overweight. The American adult population is considered healthy if it is a minority. <\/p>\n<p>Time Magazine isn&#8217;t the only one to call exercise a product political extremism. FiveThirtyEight in 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/07\/29\/fivethirtyeight-declares-focus-on-obesity-a-tactic-of-right-wing-trolls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declared <\/a>the right\u2019s focus on obesity as an ill-faith fixation of \u201cright-wing communities,\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Magazines and other major publications used to welcome the new year with challenges for readers to commit to be fit.
