This ended a hectic 18-month. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-investigation\">investigation<\/a> The 2021 Capitol breach.<\/p>\n<p>According to the committee, it sent its work to DOJ along with a recommendation that former President be prosecuted. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-donald-trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> Four criminal charges, including conspiracy to defraud and insurrection, were filed against the defendants.<\/p>\n<p>Just before the new Republican-led House was sworn into office, the expected conclusion was reached. While many have already departed, remaining aides of the committee have spent the last two weeks releasing many of the panel\u2019s materials, including <a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/release-select-committee-materials\">transcripts<\/a> Witness testimony and its 814-page document <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/mkt_app\/jan-6-committee-releases-full-report-of-probe-into-capitol-breach_4941974.html\">final report<\/a> That referred the former President for criminal charges.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers said they wanted to make their work public to underscore the seriousness of the Jan. 3 Capitol breach and Trump\u2019s alleged efforts to overturn the election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccountability is now critical to thwart any other future scheme to overturn an election,\u201d wrote Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Vice Chairwoman Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo. in a <a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/message-chairman-thompson-vice-chair-cheney\">departing message<\/a> Released Jan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have made a series of criminal referrals, and our system of Justice is responsible for what comes next. (Anna Moneymaker\/Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<p>Some of the committee\u2019s work\u2014such as videotape of hundreds of witness interviews\u2014will not be made public immediately. The National Archives will receive the videos and other records of the committee. This law allows them to be made available within 50 years. Members of the committee said they didn\u2019t release that videotape now because it would have been too difficult to edit it and redact sensitive information.<\/p>\n<p>But, future GOP leaders could try to get these materials earlier than expected. A Sunday House proposal includes a provision that calls for the National Archives transfer \u201cany records related to the committee\u201d Return to the House by Jan. 17<\/p>\n<p>Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader (Republican from California), is the next House Speaker in the new Congress. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/mccarthy-issues-warning-to-jan-6-committee-to-preserve-its-findings_4897659.html\">told<\/a> the House Jan. 6 committee in late November to preserve the findings, including official congressional records that do not align with members\u2019 \u201cpolitical agenda.\u201d It isn&#8217;t clear if the GOP-led House can enforce the provision, or what they would do to the materials.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/gop-will-look-into-democratic-missteps-on-jan-6-if-they-take-majority-mccarthy_4203657.html\">vowed<\/a> An investigation was launched in the spring of last year into the alleged missteps by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.Calif.), and her appointees when preparing the Capitol ahead of the Jan. 6th, 2021. \u201cStop the Steal\u201d rally.<\/p>\n<h2>Prolonged Investigation<\/h2>\n<p>Monday&#8217;s statement marks the close of one the most intense and extensive congressional investigations in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>After the Democrat majority House narrowly voted in favor of it on June 30, 20,21, the Jan. 6 Committee was established. Pelosi had proposed a resolution to establish the committee to investigate the breach at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.\u00a0The nine-member committee has been criticized for its apparent partisanship, in part because the only two Republicans on the panel\u2014Reps. Adam Kinzinger (Republican-Ill.), and Liz Cheney(Republican-Wyo).)\u2014are both known for their strong opposition to Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The panel had formally or informally interviewed more than 1,000 witnesses, collected more than 1 million documents, and held 10 public hearings with little interference, before\u00a0concluding at the end that Trump coordinated a \u201cconspiracy\u201d on multiple levels, and inspired supporters to attack the Capitol and interrupt the certification of President Joe Biden\u2019s win. The panel recommended that Trump be prosecuted by the Justice Department for four offences, including aiding insurrection and obstruction.<\/p>\n<p>Although this was the first time lawmakers had referred a former president for criminal prosecution, so-called criminal referrals have no real legal standing, meaning the DOJ is not obliged to act upon the Jan. 6 panel\u2019s recommendations. Trump could not run for another term if convicted on a charge of insurrection. (Erin Schaff\/Pool\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<p>Trump, meanwhile,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/trump-says-jan-6-committees-charges-are-fake-but-make-him-stronger_4934674.html\">dismissed<\/a> the Jan. 6 committee\u2019s criminal referrals, saying that the panel has leveled \u201cfake charges\u201d He was against him. He called the release of the committee\u2019s final report a \u201cwitch hunt,\u201d Failing to investigate the root cause of the Jan. 6 protest which he claimed was election fraud<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese folks don\u2019t get it that when they come after me, people who love freedom rally around me. It strengthens me.
