Please refresh the page and try again.\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\">\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>The truth of the matter:<\/strong>\u00a04 out 10 lobbying dollars are spent on healthcare and food interests.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/figure>\n<p>My career began when I was a consultant for Coke in order to combat sugar taxes in Pennsylvania. The most powerful African American pastors in Pennsylvania were first identified by us. Coke donated millions of dollars to them then, confidently. Following the press conference, the pastors claimed that sugar taxes were racist. The media covered it, racial tensions flared, and Coke defeated\u00a0the taxes.<\/p>\n<p>This is the essence of the daily playbook that pharma- and food companies use to preserve this status quo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPersonal choice\u201d\u00a0Arguments on health and food used to resonate a lot with me.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cPeople like to drink Coke and eat fast food. We can\u2019t infringe on their freedom.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCurbing\u00a0sugar attacks personal choice.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\u201cPatients are going to make bad choices. The Medical system\u00a0stands ready to clean up the mess.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\u201cPeople getting fat is a matter of personal responsibility.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A crucial fact however changed my outlook:\u00a0<strong>You can\u2019t have a free market when the current market is rigged.\u00a0<\/strong>Healthcare and food corporations have co-opted free markets thinking. They lobby more than any other industry to rig it and then complain that anyone who questions the system is being unfair. \u201canti-free market.\u201d This is a trap that even the most intelligent conservatives I have ever met fall into.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pre-diabetes in 25% of teens is not due to \u201cpersonal choice\u201d \u2013 it is because of a rigged system that is decimating human capital. The undermining of our brains and bodies on a systemic scale\u00a0is a first-order issue to almost any other public policy challenge.<\/p>\n<p>The science is clear: if we want to keep people healthy and improve our human capital in America \u2013 we need to do three things:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Limit sugar<\/li>\n<li>Limit intake of omega-6 fats (seed oil)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Reduce processed grains\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We don\u2019t need to consider bans or taxes. We can begin by removing two of America&#8217;s most destructive crony capitalism practices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>These items are subsidized by tens to billions of dollars<\/li>\n<li>This is due to the fact that these items are eligible for SNAP benefits. A government nutrition program on which 15% of the country rely. My.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/truemedicine.care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TrueMed<\/a>\u00a0Justin Mares, co-founder, points out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.piratewires.com\/p\/tufts-food-compass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revenue from taxpayer-funded SNAP made up close to 20% Coke\u2019s annual US revenue that year<\/a>.
