Elon Musk, Twitter&#8217;s head, has also been notified. <a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/nick-arama\/2023\/01\/02\/elon-spills-on-when-to-expect-the-fauci-files-n682147\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> we\u2019re going to be seeing the \u201cFauci Files\u201d This week, more information will be available.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrats and liberal media had previously tried to sell us on the fiction that there wasn\u2019t any suppression of speech going on, Or that if it was happening, the government wasn\u2019t involved in it and there weren\u2019t concerning constitutional questions being implicated.<\/p>\n<p>But now, we\u2019re suddenly seeing prominent Democrats coming out and saying flat out that they should start controlling speech \u2014 for our own good, of course, because of all that horrible, evil \u201cmisinformation\u201d or \u201chate speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was more alarming than it seems. <a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/nick-arama\/2022\/12\/29\/dem-senator-gives-away-the-game-on-suppressing-speech-including-scary-take-on-1st-amendment-n680572\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as I wrote last week,<\/a> that a member of Congress for 35 years and a senator since 2007 Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD), didn\u2019t seem to have any understanding of the Constitution. He called on the government to take down social media. \u201chate speech\u201d In complete contradiction with the First Amendment.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenatorCardin?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@SenatorCardin<\/a>: &#8220;If you espouse hate, if you espouse violence, you&#8217;re not protected under the First Amendment. I think we can be more aggressive in the way that we handle that type of use of the internet.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/t38Myy93ZI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/t38Myy93ZI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Hill (@thehill) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thehill\/status\/1608251701890252801?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">December 29, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Cardin said that they should be more than just being more. \u201caggressive\u201d He was not only going after speech but also pointed out what Europe had done as an example to follow. That\u2019s crazy since various countries in Europe have resorted to punishing people now for speech that someone finds offensive. It\u2019s the path we never want to go down, but that\u2019s where the Democrats want us to go.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not just Cardin. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D\u2013MN) was also on that dangerous road when she decided to go on \u201cMeet the Press\u201d Sunday. She was speaking on Section 230 of Communications Decency Act. \u201cmisinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Amy Klobuchar, Democrat, endorses requiring social media companies be subject to a vetting process &#8220;hefty lawsuits&#8221; They will be forced to &#8220;do something&#8221; Information about misinformation <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mQ9qmO3oos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/mQ9qmO3oos<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RNC Research (@RNCResearch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1609616277995417600?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">January 1, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cYou can amend it and focus on certain kinds of speech misinformation, disinformation,\u201d Klobuchar asserted. \u201cAnd all you\u2019re saying is, \u2018We know people are going to put stuff on your alleged town square,\u2019 which has become really a communications company. Your network, other news organizations, have limits in place and standards. And our argument\u2019s going to be: If you start making money off of it, if you amplify it, that\u2019s a whole different thing. Your angry emojis and all these things you\u2019re doing, to make money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So let\u2019s break that down. In case it wasn\u2019t clear who she was referencing there, it\u2019s Elon Musk, who called Twitter a \u201ctown square\u201d which she\u2019s mocking. Why suddenly do they want action when they didn\u2019t want action before? They don&#8217;t have control over Twitter. She\u2019s also noting if Musk himself amplifies something that she thinks they have a right to go after all of Twitter to suppress \u201cmisinformation\u201d And \u201cdisinformation.\u201d Who is allowed to determine what it is? They do, indeed. She wanted to suppress it. \u201ccertain kinds\u201d The First Amendment protects speech.<\/p>\n<p>If they want to stop misinformation, maybe the Democrats should start with themselves because they\u2019re some of the biggest purveyors of misinformation out there.<\/p>\n<p>Klobuchar also supported the idea of going after social media firms \u201chefty lawsuits\u201d To force them to obey.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Amy Klobuchar, Democrat Senator, supports exposing social media companies to &#8220;hefty lawsuits&#8221; They will be forced to &#8220;do something&#8221; Information about misinformation <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mQ9qmO3oos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/mQ9qmO3oos<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RNC Research (@RNCResearch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1609616277995417600?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">January 1, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is how insane it can get. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/meet-the-press\/meet-press-january-1-2023-n1302274\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blamed<\/a> the attack on Paul Pelosi, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s husband, and the Capitol riot on social media.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>And they\u2019ve got to be liable when you\u2019ve got situations where literally deranged people are believing their stuff, and going in, and taking a hammer, and bludgeoning the husband of the speaker of the House, or hundreds of thousands of blog posts that are allowed to go through with maps of the Capitol that they use to create an insurrection. At some point, when they can\u2019t control their own platforms while they\u2019re making billions of dollars from the American people, and over, as you point out, two thirds of Americans say it\u2019s hurting our democracy, come on, Congress. This is not the time to hide behind it. Get on with your work.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That sounds like there\u2019s some misinformation in there, including the \u201chundreds of thousands of blog posts.\u201d No, I\u2019m thinking two-thirds of Americans are not calling for violations of the First Amendment. And did she just say that they\u2019re going to hold platforms responsible for what a crazy person does? That\u2019s what she\u2019s saying. They\u2019ll use anything to go after speech they want to control. What about all the Democratic misinformation? Like Russia collusion and countless other lies.
