It is a remote kill button that could be used by the government and police to disable the device. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ev-driver-reports-full-self-driving-made-sudden-dangerous-move-4-ambulances-called\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">car makers<\/a> To disable your car, they will do it from their office so that you can&#8217;t use it.<\/p>\n<p>Alarmingly the language in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/3684\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act<\/a> It is a little vague. It doesn&#8217;t fully explain what this device is capable of, or if it doubles up as a surveillance device outside the legislation. And when it can be used to harm citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The bill page 135 states that the device must be functional. \u201cpassively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired\u201d  \u201cprevent or limit motor vehicle operation if an impairment is detected.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"in-article-trending\" class=\"in-article-more inner-content\">\n<p>Trending:<\/p>\n<div class=\"in-article-more-right\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-jeremiah-green-modest-mouse-drummer-dead-45\/\" data-type=\"Internal link\" data-type-location=\"in-content-trending\">Founding Drummer of Rock Band Dead at 45: &#8216;He Laid Down to Rest and Simply Faded Out&#8217;<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>They are mandatory.<\/p>\n<p>This is a limitation on freedom and a privacy nightmare.<\/p>\n<p>The bill language means that the system will be \u201cpassive,\u201d This means that it cannot be switched off and is always on. The device can also shut down private vehicles without your permission.<\/p>\n<p>This sounds like something that will take your life to a whole new level <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/deep-state-reckoning-nsa-investigation-alleged-illegal-surveillance-tucker-carlson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state-sponsored surveillance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\" class=\"one-half\">\n<p>Do you think you could ever drive a car equipped with a remote kill button?<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-results\">\n<p>\nYes: 1% (30 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<p>\nNo: 99% (2398 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Former Rep. Bill Barr stated at the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/29\/barr-bidens-infrastructure-bill-contains-backdoor-kill-switch-for-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Caller<\/a>\u00a0Biden signed this bill. But, the details are not clear. What if a driver is not drunk but drowsy?<\/p>\n<p>Computer algorithms will manage the car&#8217;s operation. We have already seen this with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dems-jump-ted-cruz-points-oddity-twitters-algorithm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">how badly<\/a> How can algorithms be used on social media to give anyone confidence?<\/p>\n<p>It has not been reviewed for any other reasons. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/shapiro-tells-view-guest-exactly-calling-constitution-trash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">constitutionality<\/a>. This intrusion in our lives and the curtailing of freedom will it pass with the Fifth or Sixth Amendments? The former assures the right not to self-incriminate and the latter is the right to face one\u2019s accuser.<\/p>\n<p>This legislation has another problem. Definitions \u201cimpairment\u201d State laws can differ. Can these devices distinguish between states or locations? What does it tell us? \u201cimpairment\u201d even mean? Legally drunk? Or is it? \u201cpassive\u201d What are the standards for device?<\/p>\n<p>This legislation does not specify exactly who will be collecting the data. It will include the locations drivers drove through. Will this data be used against you if your car was shut down more than once? Similar to the problems with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-big-tech-gun-congressional-committee-floats-possible-breakup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Tech<\/a>This legislation is complicated and leaves many unanswered questions.<\/p>\n<p>Will this data also be sold to advertisers or other entities that could use the data for their own benefit? This is just another example of an &#8220;anonymous&#8221;? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-police-use-of-dna-leads-to-backlash-changes-to-big-database-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invasion<\/a> Our privacy like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-googles-privacy-promises-dont-sway-many-experts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google<\/a> Or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-uk-lawmakers-slam-facebook-recommend-stiffer-regulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>This is just to mention the fact that this legislation restricts our freedom to move and can lead to us being subject to possible punishment, without any trial or accusations.<\/p>\n<p>Another problem is this: \u201claw.\u201d It doesn\u2019t even tell us what sort of technology will be employed in these switches. The law does not specify the technology that will be used in these switches. This is up to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), who will decide over the next few decades. The actual technology is not yet available.<\/p>\n<p>Participants in the new law tried to ignore criticism.<\/p>\n<p>Jeffrey Michael, a researcher at Johns Hopkins University\u2019s Center for Injury Research and Policy, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fact-checking-402773429497\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told the AP<\/a> in a March report that the devices won\u2019t be able to be accessed by the police. He was one of the people who developed the tech and claims that the devices were not meant to be used by law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been associated with this technology since the beginning of its development and it has always been viewed as a prevention device rather than an enforcement device,\u201d Michael stated that the new legislation had been adopted. \u201cnothing to do with giving law enforcement access to a kill switch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the AP Robert Strassburger is the president and CEO at the Automotive Coalition for Traffic Safety. He claimed that the NHTSA is pursuing rules to prevent third parties from gaining entry to the devices.<\/p>\n<p>But neither Michael\u2019s nor Strassburger\u2019s assurances are reflected in the law itself because it does not preclude law enforcement or third parties from having access to the mandated devices. The law itself is silent on these issues. This means that anything can happen and everything could change after implementation.<\/p>\n<p>There is also the issue of hackers, and software bugs. If hackers have access to your car, will they be able brick it? Future software updates will contain bugs that can shut down your car while you drive and cause serious accidents like the ones described in the &#8220;Dangerous&#8221; article. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/man-triggered-devastating-eight-car-pileup-says-tesla-something-strange-right-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">self-driving technology<\/a> That has been so difficult?<\/p>\n<p>Since there was never any debate in Congress about these issues, there won\u2019t be any answers to them until we are already suffering the ill effects of the law. This was a very poor design.
