It is. Doe Fund graduates are less likely than others to return to jail.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll donate to Student Sponsor Partners, which helps at-risk kids escape bad \u201cpublic (government-run)\u201d schools.<\/p>\n<p>SSP sends children to Catholic schools. I\u2019m not Catholic, but I donate because the Catholic schools do better at half the cost. SSP helped thousands of families end the cycle of poverty.<\/p>\n<p>When I was young, my assumption was that government would help people get out of poverty. \u201cGovernment programs, a \u2018war on poverty\u2019 will give a leg up to the poor,\u201d said my Princeton professors. I believed. But then, I witnessed the programs fail.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I realize that government actions can do as much damage as good. Sometimes, it does more harm than good.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it! \u201cwar on poverty.\u201d Americans were able to get out of poverty when it started. Every year, the number below the poverty level has decreased.<\/p>\n<p>Next came the government bureaucrats and their programs. For the first seven years, the poverty rate fell. \u201cwar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, then the progress stopped. Government\u2019s handouts encouraged people to become <em>dependent<\/em> Handouts<\/p>\n<p>Learned helplessness, it\u2019s called.<\/p>\n<p>Welfare <em>Created<\/em> An \u201cunderclass,\u201d generations of people who don\u2019t work. They\u2019d lose benefits if they do.<\/p>\n<p>Generations of people bear children but don\u2019t marry. They\u2019d lose benefits if they do.<\/p>\n<p>The government taught people to be passive. This was a bad and new concept.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why charity is better. Charity workers can help you decide who needs your support and who just needs to be pushed.<\/p>\n<p>Not all charities do good. Some charities are just as bad as the government. Charity can encourage people to give back if they&#8217;re well-run. <em>independence<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>They also don\u2019t <em>Forcing<\/em> We will give them money.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s an even better way to help people: capitalism. Not that I\u2019ll convince most people.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Elizabeth Warren complained about Elon Musk&#8217;s conduct. \u201cpay taxes and stop freeloading off everyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"single__inline-module inline-module inline-module--newsletter alignleft\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\">\n<h3 class=\"inline-module__title headline headline--combo-sm-md\">\nStay on top of the latest news\t\t<\/h3>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\nKeep up to date with Evening Update.\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Freeloading? I like Musk\u2019s answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will pay more taxes than any American in history ($11 billion that year) . . . Don\u2019t spend it all at once . . . oh, wait, you did already.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They did. Every 15 hours, the feds consume $11 billion. Republicans and Democrats are now spending even more <em>More<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Musk, for his part, is working to make Twitter profitable. Some of his ideas may not work. Some will fail. Musk will fail.<\/p>\n<p>Warren and her colleagues in politics take our money by force.<\/p>\n<p>I prefer Musk\u2019s way.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes billionaires can do horrible things. Facebook\u2019s Mark Zuckerberg <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/08\/26\/zuckerberg-blames-fbi-for-censoring-the-posts-hunter-biden-scoop\/\">censors truthful reporting.<\/a> Zuckerberg and Amazon\u2019s Jeff Bezos<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/07\/08\/bezos-openly-embraces-tax-hikes-but-amazon-lobbied-against-them\/\"> sneakily lobby for regulations<\/a> They have advantages over their competition (such as a higher minimum salary). Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump, and Oprah Winfrey purchased gross polluting yachts.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s their own money. They can spend it however they like. They do better with it than the government.<\/p>\n<p>Zuckerberg created better ways for people to connect. Bezos makes shopping simpler and more affordable. Musk made it easier to shop online and cheaper for socialists by censoring my Twitter account. This makes them do better. If they don\u2019t spend well, they disappear.<\/p>\n<p>Government never disappears. Politicians who fail to perform well are forced to receive more of our money in order to do so again.<\/p>\n<p>People hate capitalists, but it\u2019s the capitalists who create the jobs, lift people out of poverty and feed the world.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a reporter, not an entrepreneur. I\u2019m not likely to invent something new and useful. So today, I\u2019ll give money to charity.<\/p>\n<p>It makes you feel good.<\/p>\n<p>But the world benefits more from people like Musk \u2014 and the millions of entrepreneurs who try new things.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s the season for giving.
