American Bar Association has recently announced that they will. <a href=\"https:\/\/fordhamobserver.com\/71413\/recent\/news\/aba-removes-lsat-requirement-for-law-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drop the LSAT<\/a> As an admissions requirement to law school. Now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/12\/07\/mcat-medical-schools-diversity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">some are calling<\/a> for the prestigious MCAT to be scrapped as the gold standard for medical school admissions \u2014 all in the name of racial equity.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, colleges are now the most recent standard to be cut, as evidenced by a recent job listing for a position in the director&#8217;s office.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/jobs\/view\/3379029778\/?refId=MWcsJRjFbQ9%2FlArZbRrKPQ%3D%3D&#038;trackingId=fF784ExEwqHBhGcTAISiVg%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn posting<\/a> TriBeCa-based HR&#038;A Advisors asked prospective applicants for the $138,432-to $121,668-per-year position to be removed. \u201call undergraduate and graduate school name references\u201d from their r\u00e9sum\u00e9s and only cite the degree itself. Colleges and universities are a good example of this.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2022\/06\/24\/army-drops-requirement-high-school-diploma-amid-recruiting-crisis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> even the military<\/a> (which no longer requires a high school diploma) drop the most basic entry requirements, why shouldn\u2019t the private sector follow suit? <\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no doubt that access to fancy schools and pricy education has historically shut out racial and economic minorities from many employment arenas \u2014 particularly at the highest ends of the earning spectrum. But obscuring education histories won\u2019t solve these inequities. If it didn\u2019t, they would ask candidates to <em>Completely<\/em> Take out schooling and not only school names from your CVs. <\/p>\n<p>The second is that education matters for job candidates. Many people have borrowed money to get college degrees. <em>Signify something<\/em> To the HR&#038;As all over the world. Many college students have also spent hours supporting academic societies, college sports teams, and other extracurricular activities. Sure, as with many Americans \u2014 particularly African-Americans like myself \u2014 I took on student debt. The pursuit of academic success did not only help me avoid teenage troubles but it also gave me a good job and a strong sense and self-worth.<\/p>\n<p>Policies like HR&#038;As are not just punitive, they\u2019re downright lazy. Telling young people \u2014particularly the young people-of-color this \u201cschool-blind hiring\u201d purports to benefit\u2014that academic prestige doesn\u2019t matter literally reinforces the worst stereotypes of minority cultures. These are not just places of learning, but integral components of their graduates\u2019 identities. HBCUs have a meaning: they matter. It gives already unmotivated workers a second task while they are able to improve their anti-bias skills for doing literally nothing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Of course, this doesn\u2019t mean that graduates of schools less costly or \u201clower ranking\u201d My American Dream should not be denied to anyone other than me.
