Swiss residents will continue to be entered into the nation\u2019s civil registry as male or female, with no exceptions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe binary gender model is still strongly anchored in Swiss society,\u201d The Swiss Federal Council responded to two propositions from parliament. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/switzerland-gender-a48e05b6e5d0c307b3ead2bdd686f9a5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> The Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe social preconditions for the introduction of a third gender or for a general waiver of the gender entry in the civil registry currently are not there,\u201d It was added.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press reported that the Federal Council had stated that alternative options for gender markers were necessary. \u201cnumerous\u201d There have been changes to the Swiss Constitution, as well as laws at the state and canton levels.<\/p>\n<p>The process of revising the country\u2019s Constitution is complicated. AccOderding to the Swiss Parliament, a partial or complete revision of the Constitution needs to be approved by both a majority of the voters and also a majority of the nation\u2019s 26 cantons.<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland\u2019s political system includes four parties whose views range from left to right and frequent referendums are held on a variety of issues.<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland\u2019s neighboring countries, Germany and Austria, as well as other Western European countries such as Belgium and the Netherlands, have all modified their civil registries to include \u201cthird gender\u201d or \u201cno gender\u201d options.
