The baby was found alive in a tent in the woods close to Manchester Monday morning despite the freezing temperatures. His mother was also arrested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are utterly devastated by the events that unfolded on Christmas night when our daughter Allie delivered a baby while living in a tent,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcvb.com\/article\/full-statement-from-eckersley-family-issued-dec-29-2022\/42362443\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read the statement<\/a> Released to WCVB Boston \u201cIt is heartbreaking that a child was born under such unthinkable conditions and in such tragic circumstances. We learned with everyone else from news reports what happened and are still in complete shock. We had no prior knowledge of Allie\u2019s pregnancy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eckersley (26 years old) called 911 on Monday morning to inform them that she had just given birth. She then refused to reveal the location of the baby to emergency responders. Police believe the woman was using drugs. She finally brought them to the tent where they found the baby boy alive under a pile bloody sheets, despite the freezing temperatures. Eckersley, who had a previous drug conviction, was also charged with second-degree attack\/extreme indifference, falsifying evidence, and misdemeanor reckless conduct and endangering a child&#8217;s welfare.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-hampshire\/concord-nh\/more-felonies-against-mom-accused-leaving-newborn-homeless-tent\">according to Patch.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The baby, who weighed in at 4.4 pounds, is thought to have been three months prematurely born. He was then taken to a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis Eckersley, now 68, was a Major League Baseball relief pitcher who also later became a Boston Red Sox broadcaster. From 1975 to 1998, Eckersley pitched with 197 wins and 390 saves. He won the American League\u2019s Cy Young and Most Valuable Player awards in 1992 after saving 51 games for the Oakland A\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>The former star stated in the statement that Alexandra was adopted by him and his wife at birth, and that she has been troubled her whole life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough it is painful to share, we feel it necessary to offer greater context of Allie\u2019s circumstances and background,\u201d Please read the statement. \u201cAllie has suffered from severe mental illness her entire life. Allie was hospitalized numerous times for her illness and lived in several residential programs. We did our very best to get Allie all of the help and support humanly possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alexandra&#8217;s family was devastated to hear that Alexandra could no longer be forced into treatment for mental illness or drugs once she turned 18. They also stated that Alexandra had made the decision to stay on the streets of New Hampshire the past six years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have always offered Allie a path home but she has made other choices,\u201d The statement was as follows: \u201cWe hope Allie now accepts the treatment she desperately needs for her mental health issues.
