These new laws will affect employment, housing, safety, and protection of consumers.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a look at what to expect in 2023.<\/p>\n<h2>Minimum Wage (SB 3)<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-california\">California<\/a>\u2019s minimum wage will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/inflation-triggers-california-minimum-wage-increase-in-2023_4466158.html\">increase<\/a> by 50 cents to $15.50 per hour, which will also expand to nearly all workers\u2014regardless of the number of employees at a business.<\/p>\n<p>This 3.33 percent increase is less than half of the 7.9 percent inflation increase between 2021 and 2022 calculated by California\u2019s Department of Finance.<\/p>\n<p>The law signed into law by Gov. (Justin Sullivan\/Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<h2>Jaywalking in Arizona (AB 2147)<\/h2>\n<p>The new \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/gov-gavin-newsom-enacts-bill-decriminalizing-most-jaywalking-in-california_4773690.html\">Freedom to Walk Act<\/a>,\u201d Unless the pedestrian is causing a hazard, they won&#8217;t be penalized for crossing streets outside of crosswalks or intersections.<\/p>\n<p>The law&#8217;s supporters claim that it will decrease inequitable police treatment of certain racial groups. Others suggest that the law will encourage people to walk rather than drive.<\/p>\n<p>Opponents fear that it will increase pedestrian deaths and cause more accidents.<\/p>\n<p>California has a $25 base fine for jaywalking. It can also go up to $250 per ticket.<\/p>\n<h2>COVID Misinformation (AB2098)<\/h2>\n<p>This law allows doctors the ability to be disciplined for spreading &#8220;so-called&#8221; diseases.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/newsom-signs-bill-allowing-doctors-in-california-to-face-discipline-for-misinformation_4766970.html\">misinformation<\/a>\u00a0or disinformation about COVID-19\u2014including information about vaccine effectiveness and other treatments\u2014and categorizes it as unprofessional conduct.<\/p>\n<p>The Medical Board regulates surgeons and physicians. (John Fredricks\/The Epoch Times).<\/figure>\n<h2>Criminal Records (SB731)<\/h2>\n<p>A new law will allow at least 225,000 Californians who have been convicted or arrested in the past to have their criminal records sealed. This is due to a new law.<\/p>\n<p>These records will be automatically sealed after people finish their sentence.<\/p>\n<p>According to Californians For Safety and Justice, California has around 8 million criminal record holders.<\/p>\n<h2>Loitering (SB 357)<\/h2>\n<p>California has a new law that makes loitering with the intent of engaging in sex work illegal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-prostitution\">prostitution<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also known as the \u201cSafer Streets for All Act,\u201d The law was first introduced by Senator Scott Weiner (D, San Francisco) last year. Weiner released a statement stating that the law was being introduced by Sen. Scott Weiner (D-San Francisco). \u201celiminates an anti-loitering offense that leads to harmful treatment of people for simply \u2018appearing\u2019 to be a sex worker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/new-california-safer-streets-law-worsens-sex-crimes-victim-advocates_4856478.html\">opponents<\/a> The law encourages more prostitutes, which will put the community at risk. \u201cJohns\u201d In public. Fallon\/AFP via Getty Images<\/figure>\n<h2>Parking Requirements &#8211; AB 2097<\/h2>\n<p>If the development is within a half mile of public transit, the law will prevent cities from imposing a minimum number parking spaces.<\/p>\n<p>This law was created to encourage the development of affordable housing units through a reduction in land costs and development space.<\/p>\n<p>Critics of the law say that it will, instead, reduce developers\u2019 efforts to build affordable housing, because many cities are already reducing parking requirements as an incentive for developers to include affordable units in their projects.<\/p>\n<h2>FAST Recovery Act &#8211; AB 257<\/h2>\n<p>The new law would apply to fast food chains with more than 100 locations in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The law allows minimum wages to rise up to $22 per hour in 2023. This is subject to inflation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/enough-signatures-to-overturn-fast-food-law-restaurant-coalition_4927640.html?utm_source=ai&#038;utm_medium=search\">Opponents<\/a> Some argue that the law will lead to higher food costs and job losses. (Mario Tama\/Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<h2>Abortion (SB 1375)<\/h2>\n<p>Starting January, nurse practitioners will be able to perform first-trimester abortions without a doctor\u2019s supervision under a new law.<\/p>\n<p>Toni Atkins, a senator from San Diego, introduced the law in February. The law was meant to increase access to abortion. California is expecting to see more patients come from other states in order to obtain abortions.<\/p>\n<p>In November, voters also passed Proposition 1 to change the California Constitution to say the state cannot deny or interfere with a person\u2019s decision whether or not to have an abortion or whether to use contraceptives.<\/p>\n<h2>Salary Transparency (SB 1162)<\/h2>\n<p>Companies with over 15 employees must now include pay scales in job postings by 2023.<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-sophie-li\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/default-user.png\" alt=\"Sophie Li\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of new laws will be in effect as Californians prepare to end 2022.
