Jack the Ripper murdered and mutilated five women in London between 1888-1889, but was never captured.<\/p>\n<p>Many theories have been propounded as to the murderer\u2019s identity, and little if any evidence has been found as to his physical appearance, but the rediscovery of a walking stick that may have his face carved on it has excited some police researchers. It\u00a0was just found by staff in the archives of the College of Policing in the U.K., who called the face engraved on the cane \u201cthe only reported facial composite\u201d The infamous killer.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">After a bizarre police discovery, Jack the Ripper might have been finally unmasked <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nc3JP4qoaH\">https:\/\/t.co\/nc3JP4qoaH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Daily Mail Online (@MailOnline) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MailOnline\/status\/1608776096853409792?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 30, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinding this cane was an exciting moment for us,\u201d Antony Cash, College of Policing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2022\/12\/29\/how-one-walking-stick-could-unlock-secret-jack-rippers-identity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">enthused<\/a>. \u201cJack the Ripper is one of the biggest and most infamous murder cases in our history and his crimes were significant in paving the way for modern policing and forensics as it caused police to begin experimenting with and developing new techniques as they attempted to try and solve these murders, such as crime scene preservation, profiling, and photography.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Frederick Abberline, then-Chief Inspector of the Police, was presented the walking stick originally. \u201cas a mark of esteem\u201d After the murders, his investigation team was called in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis walking cane is such a fascinating artifact that represents such a historically significant time in policing, and it\u2019s amazing that we can put it out on display here in Ryton, alongside the original newspaper cuttings, so that our officers can see first-hand how far we\u2019ve advanced in policing since then,\u201d Cash added.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers believe that the handle of the cane depicts a man looking in the mirror while wearing a dark cowl. This is Dr. Alexander Pedachenko. Abberline suspects Pedachenko of the crimes which took place between August 31 and Nov 9, 1888.\u00a0Jack the Ripper was said to have slashed the throats five prostitutes, Mary Ann Nichols and Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride and Catherine Eddowes. He is said to have taken the organs of three of the women, and then removed half a kidney and sent it to police.<\/p>\n<p>A series of notes from a man claiming to have been the murderer, calling himself Jack the Ripper, were sent to the police. After failing to catch the murderer, the London police commissioner was forced to resign.
