Now, we\u2019re nearing a grim milestone \u2014 nearly one-third of the country will be on Medicaid,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/thefga.org\/press\/fga-launches-countdown-clock-to-100-million-on-medicaid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Hayden Dublois FGA Data and Analytics director<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As Americans count down to the new New Year, we have our eye on another countdown\u2026<\/p>\n<p>100 million people on Medicaid within 75 days. We\u2019re in the midst of a nationwide workforce crisis, yet the Biden administration is pushing policies to entice people into government dependency at record levels while limiting opportunities to achieve the America Dream,\u201d He added.<\/p>\n<p>The non-profit group explained in a press release that the rapid growth in enrollment is primarily due to the federal government\u2019s continued extension of the COVID-19 public health emergency. The emergency remains in effect. However, the states are eligible for additional Medicaid funding provided that all enrolled remain locked into the program.<\/p>\n<p>FGA reported that the program has brought 24 million additional Americans into Medicaid. This includes over 21 million people who are not eligible for Medicaid because they make too much or are otherwise ineligible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pandemic-era policy keeping more than 21 million ineligible enrollees on Medicaid is costing taxpayers more than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/congress-healthcare-malpractice-medicaid-omnibus-bill-republicans-democrats-11671648241?mod=opinion_lead_pos4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$16 billion per month<\/a>. Despite the recently enacted legislation allowing states to redetermine eligibility beginning in April, the Biden administration is slow walking the process and hoping states will be sluggish to act,\u201d Dublois spoke in the press release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn approximately 76 days, 100 million people will be on Medicaid. States should begin preparing now so that they can remove the millions of ineligible enrollees and reclaim program integrity as quickly as possible,\u201d He concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Since November <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/medicaid\/issue-brief\/status-of-state-medicaid-expansion-decisions-interactive-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">39 states and Washington, D.C<\/a>The. have approved Medicaid expansion, which allows more low-income individuals to be eligible. Additional incentives were provided by the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021 to encourage further expansion.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration has highlighted Medicaid expansion as a major reason for the nation\u2019s uninsured rate falling to a record low of 8% this year. Approximately 5.2 million people \u2013 including 4.1 million adults ages 18-64 and 1 million children ages 0-17 \u2013 have gained health coverage since 2020, according to an August <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/about\/news\/2022\/08\/02\/new-hhs-report-shows-national-uninsured-rate-reached-all-time-low-in-2022.html#:~:text=Today%2C%20the%20U.S.%20Department%20of,Harris%20Administration%20in%20January%202021.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> By the Department of Health and Human Services.<\/p>\n<p>In its entirety, the agency acknowledged. <a href=\"https:\/\/aspe.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/77ba3e9c99264d4f76dd662d3b2498c0\/aspe-ib-uninsured-aca.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> Administration data starting in 2021 or early 2022 \u201cshow a record-high number of people with coverage related to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) \u2013 with more than 35 million people estimated to be enrolled in the Medicaid expansion, Basic Health Program, or Marketplace coverage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In order to receive a 6.2% rise in their Federal Medical Assistance Percentage, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act of 2020 (FFCRA) required that states suspend Medicaid eligibility terminations beginning in March 2020 and keep coverage for almost all existing enrollees.
