It&#8217;s understandable that flights would be cancelled as safety precautions, but one airline is different and it stands out. The airline&#8217;s handling cancellations and the resulting customer service complaints is &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=Southwest&#038;src=trend_click&#038;vertical=trends\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Southwest<\/a>Since a while, &#8220;has been trending on Twitter consistently.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), was so concerned about the situation that they actually took note and sent several tweets starting Monday and Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">You can read Southwest\u2019s customer service plan here: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2vmG9v9nK5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/t.co\/2vmG9v9nK5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 TransportationGov (@USDOT) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USDOT\/status\/1607558483347398657?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">December 27, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Monday night, a tweet stated that the department was &#8220;concerned&#8221; They referred the cancellation rate as &#8220;unacceptable,&#8221; This sentiment is no doubt shared by others with much less authority. In the tweet, it was also stated that the department would &#8220;examine whether cancellations were controllable and if Southwest is complying with its customer service plan,&#8221; In that thread, a link was tweeted to the customer service plan.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the department shared another thread via Twitter, informing that Secretary Pete Buttigieg (who heads the department) spoke with the CEO of the airline and union leaders. &#8220;to convey the Department\u2019s expectation that Southwest meet its obligations to passengers and workers and take steps to prevent a situation like this from happening again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tweeted out was also a link to Aviation Consumer Protection.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Southwest\u2019s customer service plan commits the airline to providing meal vouchers and hotels where available to passengers who are experiencing significant delays and cancelations.
